So...er...I have this friend *cough* who is a bit curious about Cygnar. He also happens to play Cryx and is...er...wondering about a change of play style - more shooting and elite. Less hordey face punching.

He is looking at the boxes. There's an old Cygnar AIO available to him:

(For reference:
  • Major Markus "Siege" Brisbane
    • Avenger
    • Defender
    • Squire Solo
    Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Unit
    • Arcane Tempest Gun Mage Officer
    Stormguard Unit (10)
    Journeyman Warcaster)

  • This still seems like a solid starter to the faction. Two 'jack kits, a block of infantry, etc.

The next option is to add the new Cygnar Battlebox

  • Warcaster Major Beth Maddox
    Firefly Light Warjack
    Lancer Light Warjack
    Ironclad Heavy Warjack

  • Or to try and pick up the Cygnar half of the 2 Player Box which would net me another ten Stormguard who would work well with Maddox, I believe.

I could magnetize the heavy kit...for him...

Lastly, there are a few of the old MK2 Battleboxes kicking around. Given the light warjacks I...I mean he...would already have by this point, would it be worth picking up? Or would the money be better spent elsewhere?

Thank you on behalf of my friend. This is certainly not me suffering from faction faffing again. No. Not at all.

You (err) your friend may also want to consider picking up the new AIO box I believe it is due out next month. I don't remember it's contents but It should still be considered.
The only reason to consider the 2 player box is if you are interested in a unit of stormguard (which is already listed) or if you want the cryx part as well. If your friend is only interested in cygnar just the battle box and the old AIO. I don't think that it would be worth picking up the new AIO and battle box and then adding the old battle box. All you'd be getting is Stryker1 and a charger for new models and you'd end up with 2 lancers and 3 Ironclads.

Caveat I'm not a Cygnar player but there are a lot of them in my meta.

Okay, I am sure he will find that information useful once I have passed it on.

Unfortunately the new AIO isn'the available here in the UK so it would be the old one.

Thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.

Just in case you have people across the ocean on holiday...

From what I understand, Siege is an underwhelming warcaster
these days. The old metal siege model is disappointing, and
really Sloan/Haleys seem to be where it's at.

I myself really love the Kraye model, and he becomes rather
silly with the Heavy Metal theme force (5" reposition on
warjacks because of the Iron Horse rule and reposition
on solos with the the theme force), but I doubt he's ideal to
    play with.

I'm not familiar with Maddox or the battlebox.

I recently started cygnar myself, and my 1st purchases were the new AIO and the new battlebox. Sloan is really solid, and the trenchers are way better than most of the people give them credit for. I then went out and dropped more cash on like 3 or 4 casters, including haley 2 and 3, nemo 3 and siege. I like all of them pretty well. Now : that being said, me personally, i WILL NOT buy storm lances, mainly because they really are way too strong right now, and people dont admit to it. There are other viable things in faction, and i tend to not play "TFG" lists. But, youll def want the battlebox, its got an arc node, and 1 journeyman WC if you can swing it too. Look at building jack heavy-ish lists in the heavy metal or storm division themes, both are really fun to play.

    Okay, thank you.

@Malfred: I kind like the old Siege model

That's fine. People like what they like.

The model bothered me because he had this iconic gun that
    he wasn't using.
