I've only been playing 40k since summer of 2015 but recently decided to take the plunge into 30k. I have two boxes of BaC and two boxes of BoP that I've had for a while deciding on what legion to pick. I finally landed on Night Lords for my first legion with Thousand Sons or Dark Angles as a possible second one later. Yesterday I bought the two red books, Curze, Sevetar, NL Rhino doors, Night Raptors, some terror squad head bits, and some volkite charger bits. Still waiting for it to ship out but in the mean time am looking to see what I might need next.

Searching around the forums it seems that volkite chargers are important and chain glaives. So I'll probably pick up more of them. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of anything more I should get to start out. I have the two dreads from BaC all cut and magnetized so i can put their weapons on whatever arms I want. Do I need a Leviathon dreadnaught or another contemptor? And if I do what is the most important load out for it? Just looking for where to go next in getting a night lords list together.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

If you want to do Terror Cult then yeah Volkite is where it's at.

I was really thinking about doing NL when I was picking my legion, but Terror Cult did not appeal to me. Just seems like a one trick pony, and I prefer a well rounded army with more variety than it offers (forced Terror Squads x 3 means they will be your only troops unless you play massive games). It also feels like a very 40K-ish army, since you'll be drop podding those10 man Terror guys into place.

Chainglaives look awesome, are really fluffy and work well since you hit at init and get +1S AP3 and rending. This is at the cost of your extra CCW attack so keep that in mind. They're really good on squad leaders, but they compete with 15 pt power fists, so they're not auto-take.

Based on what you have you don't "need" anything, so just go with what you like the look/feel of.

Leviathans are awesome, but suffer from getting immobilized T1-2 in like 90% of my games as they're big firemagnets, but maybe that's just my experience.

All of their loadouts are good, but they're all different.
The auto-take things for me are Armored Ceramite and Phosphex dischargers.

Claw + Drill is solid since you get 2x Melta Guns and can take on anything.

Grav Flux Bombard is great against infantry because it's one of the few "ignores cover" weapons in the game. Not so great against armor, but if you manage a lucky pen against a superheavy, and roll a 6 on the damage table you'll be grinning ear to ear as your opponent's jaw drops.

Melta-lance is also good, but the main targets you'll want it going after will have Armored Ceramite. Still it's S9 AP1 and Melta, so good chance to blow things up if you get the pen through. 3x S9 AP1 is also great against heavy infantry.

The Storm Cannon is good for light armor and mowing down marines. I always consider this when I foot slog a Leviathan because it's a cheap upgrade.

Overall if I were you I'd look at adding some ranged firepower. You can turn some of your tacticals into Heavy Support squads with the FW HW upgrades.

I'm also a fan of the Rapier chassis, any flavor (HB is probably a waste though, since NL don't get any cool special ammo on them). Graviton Cannons and Laser Destroyer arrays are excellent anti-armor, and the ubiquitous Quad Launcher will get rid of most infantry that you don't want to deal with in close combat.

I also really like the Deredeo Dreadnough. It's just so cool looking and can really dish out pain to light vehicles (especially flyers) and infantry.

Thanks for the info. I agree that big dreads are fire magnets but they look awesome so I love seeing them. In 40k I run a dreadnaught half the time even though it usually ends up being a first blood VP giver to my opponent but I just like fielding stuff that looks cool.

Totally agree, I mean 30K is where you want to run stuff you like and that you think looks cool.

Also, Dreads get way more mileage in 30K because Grav doesn't exist in the same way it does in 40K.

Even still my Leviathan is worth it because he eats like 1200+ points of shooting anyways, which gives the rest of the army a chance to get into position.

Definitely a solid start, you've got enough troops and contemptors for a bit, and your Legion's special units. You might want to pick up a Sicaran, as those are a solid all-around tank that can deal with just about anything you throw at it. I assume you already have rhinos set aside for these guys, so that's good. I don't play NL, but assault squads seem like a fluffy choice as well.
Hope this helps,

+1 for the Deredeo dread, kit mine out with the missile launcher and the autocannons and just let it go to town. S8 and sunder means that even knights need to look out!

Cool thanks. I'll look into getting a Sicaran and a Deredeo dread when I gather up some money to do another huge order from forgeworld. Yea I'm planning to use Rhinos right now from 40k just cause they are easier and cheaper to acquire. I'll probably eventually get one of the command Rhinos from forgeworld.
