For a painting project of mine I was wondering if there is anything in the fluff that says what color orks bleed?
Do they have green blood? (And have something Vulcan about them) or do they just bleed red?

While orks originally had green blood (which makes more sense to me) Games Workshop changed it to red for clarity.

In Xenology, the splatters of blood in the chapter about Orks are green, which i think was a clever touch. Don't remember if it mentions the color in the text, but the book is probably non-canon so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

All I ever hear about Xenology is how it's not canon..

It depends which Ork college they went to. What ever was the school's color is what they bleed.

Thanks for all great responses.
I will do it red. Weird as it is. It will also be more visible then green on green, so maybe not so bad after all

According to an ancient WD, Ork blood is red. The RL reason given there was because red blood looks more striking than green blood. Then the WD handwaved a fluff babble explanation of how the symbiotic algae in Orks is in the skin where it can photosynthesize, but not in the blood.

For what it's worth, the badge of the Blood Axe clan in Waaargh The Orks is two crossed axes dripping with red blood. And the inside of Orks' mouths has always been painted red.

Back when White Dwarf had letters to the editor, someone asked that question. The answer was that it's technically green, but because it's hard to see on green skin they paint it red in the studio…
"otherwise it looks like the ork had an accident with a gooseberry slushy!"

Red, which darkens as the Ork gets bigger and stronger to the point of becoming blackened when they're at warboss level.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

I'd suggest it's brown. Looks different from humans, but not that different after all. They are fungus after all and have you ever seen a mushroom, that is leaking red liquid?

I like this. I think it's been unofficially retconned, but it would be nice for GW to return to this and make it clear to everyone somehow.

According to the Horus Heresy books, they bleed in red.
