I'm building a 2000-pt list whose core (total 1600 pts) looks like this:
Firelance Starhost (60 pts):
- Scar-Veteran on Cold One (general) with relic blade (100 pts)
- 5 x Saurus Knights with blades and full command (120 pts)
- 5 x Saurus Knights with blades and full command (120 pts)
- 5 x Saurus Knights with blades and full command (120 pts)
Eternal Starhost (80 pts):
- Eternity Warden (140 pts)
- 10 x Saurus Guard with full command (200 pts)
- 10 x Saurus Guard with full command (200 pts)
- 10 x Saurus Guard with full command (200 pts)
Skink Priest with priestly trappings (100 pts)
Skink Starseer (160 pts)
So it's kind of a hammer-and-anvil configuration. The Firelance Starhost adds 3 to its own charge rolls and can inflict mortal wounds on a to-wound roll of 6 with their blades when charging. The Scar-Veteran allows nearby Saurus Knights to re-rolls 1's to hit and to get an additional attack out of their Cold Ones.
As long as the Saurus Guard stay very close to their Eternity Warden, they get +2 armor save and +1 attack, owing to a series of special rules from the models and their battalion. The Skink Priest with priestly trappings will stay near them and use his 4+ ability to allow units within 8 inches to re-roll those failed 2+ armor saves. Moreover, the Saurus Guard inflict 1d3 damage each if they did not move or charge during their turn. I'm thinking of keeping my three Saurus Guard units in a spearhead shape to protect the Warden and the Priest, who are more useful in safety than on the front lines. The Skink Starseer will stay wherever is safest (possibly waaaay at the back, or inside the spearhead) to use his divining ability for "insights" (general-purpose re-rolls); those insights will serve primarily to re-roll failed Skink Priest rolls and initiative rolls.
Much of my army's abilities depend on proximity and synergy, so any units that are part of the same starhost will stick close together. I admit I haven't given much thought to how the two starhosts will support each other. I guess it'll depend on my opponent.
Now I need advice on how to expand to 2000 points by plugging that huge 400-pt gap. If you recommend stuff I already have, I am far more likely to go along with your suggestion. Here is what I can currently field, aside from the above:
1 Scar-Veteran on Carnosaur (260)
1 Saurus Oldblood on foot (100)
1 Troglodon (200)
1 Bastiladon (300)
20 Saurus Warriors (200)
20 Skinks (160)
5 Chameleon Skinks (120)
2 Razordons (120) and handlers
