Hey all,

I see folks adding marks of Chaos to their Aspiring Champions and CSM Trooper in some of the lists on this forum. However, as I read the CSM Kill Team rules is says any model with the Marks of Chaos ability can have a mark. I don't see that terminology on any of the base units. Can somebody clarify?

It's weirdly worded. It basically states that all Chaos Units aside from Cultists get it.

Thanks, I am not sure how I missed that. Appreciated.

I don't think so. The Chaos special operatives clearly state that they have a Mark of Chaos. The regular Chaos Kill Team does not mention a Mark of Chaos. I think people are making their list wrong if they are including a Mark of Chaos on their Aspiring Champion or Chaos Space Marines. It reads:
Marks of Chaos: When you recruit a model with this ability, pick a Mark of Chaos to give them and modify your roster accordingly:

When you recruit an Aspiring Champion, Chaos Space Marine, or a Chaos Gunner; none of them have the mention of the Mark of Chaos.

Right above that it says "the following special rule applies to all members of a Chaos Space Marine kill team, other than Chaos Cultists"

Yeah it is terribly written, but RAI is that they get them.. as several Wargear items require the Marks.

Deathwatch
Aspiring Champion 225
Plasma Pistol 50
Power Sword 50
Mark Slaanesh +1Ld

Gunner 130
Heavy Bolter 180
Photo Visor 15
Mark Nurgle +1T

Chaos Spacemarine 120
Boltgun 35
Infernal Bolts 25
Mark Tzeetch 5++

Chaos Spacemarine 120
Chainsword 25
Bolt Pistol 25
Mark Khorne +1A

This is my attempt at a Chaos list.. (using Deathwatch minis from Overkill)

The flamer in what is a very long ranged list seems a tad weird...

But I figure you have him and the leader moving forward and the other just taking pot shots

but it works

It's funny, I've seen more Chaos than any other kill team this weekend, but very few of them actually using Chaos models. Most of them have been Deathwatch, with a few using the rules to make different chapters such as Space Wolves.

I think that is the Strength of the CSM one.. it isn't actually overly choasy, just Spacemarines, with a chosen bonus stat.. the issue tends to come more with the Specialists, the easiest one to work in in the raptor as a assult marine

the Termi get s tad harder due to its combi weapon

and just No to Spawn

Well, that's when you bring a Space Wolf terminator with a pair of lightning claws and mark of Khorne. Not necessarily the best load out, but fun.

If that was their intention, then why spell out that the operatives have a Mark of Chaos? And if that was their intention, then their points are off.
Chaos Marine 120 pts. Scout 100 pts. - power armour and a +1 stat or invulnerable save vs. one point of movement 20 pts. difference.
Chaos Marine 120 pts. Necron Immortal 110 pts. - a +1 stat or invulnerable save vs. different injury chart, 2 pts. less initiative, and 2 pts. higher leadership 10 pts. difference
Chaos Marine 120 pts. Grey Knight 175 pts. - a +1 stat or invulnerable save vs. They Shall Know No Fear, Storm Bolter, and Hammerhand 55 pts. difference

In my opinion, based upon these points. A Chaos Marine should cost more than just 20 pts. higher than a Scout. There should be more than a 10 pts. difference between a Necron and a Chaos Marine. I just haven't played any games to determine who would have the significant advantage here. And a Grey Knight is under costed if a Chaos Marine is used as a base line. Only 55 pts. difference for TSKNF, Storm Bolter, and Hammerhand.

Special operatives are not part of your kill team so are specifically pointed out as having a Mark, whilst your kill team is assumed to already be covered by the blanket kill team rules.
