So I'm wanting to add a second army to my collection (my main is Dark Elves, I can do most anything from their scrolls, but love Serpentis) and I'm close to settling on Stormcasts. Was looking for some feedback on lists. They do not need to be 100% tournament nasty, but I do want them strong.

Anyway, 2000 points:

Leaders:

Lord-Aquilor - General in order to unlock Battleline troops

Lord-Celestant on Stardrake

Battleline:

3 units of 5 Vanguard Hunters with Primes and Astral Compasses

Other:

3 units of 2 Fulminators

1 unit of Aetherwings

2000 points exact.

If you want to make a strong stormcast list.
The hammerstrike force formation is kind of a must have imo.

If you want to field the extremis units. I would suggest
Stardrake Celestant
Knight heraldor
Lord relictor
4 fullminators

heraldor gives the fullminators the ability to retreat/ run and still charge in the same turn.
The relictor use the chariot prayer to send fullminators 24" forward for a first turn charge, while still being able to retreat next turn and charge again, gaining their charge damage bonus. The celestants command ability increases the chance of getting 6's to wound with dracoth claws

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

The heraldor-fulminator combo is, indeed a big trap in you should not fall

sure, using those sweet damage 3 spear is cool. But making a retreat/charge mean you don't shoot. And fulminator are DEVASTATING in the shooting phase. Against ennemy at 3" or less (so, after the melee) 4 fulminator make between 4 and 12 attacks, each hit making TWO MORTAL WOUND. Why the hell would you not use that ? For making dmg 3 attack who need to hit, wound, and the ennemy to fail a save ? At the price of a fragile 120 pts character ?

No no no. If you want a tip : take a knight azyros. Fast enough to go with dracoth. One lantern of the tempest protect them against ranged attack (and make fulminator nearly immune to them) and make those devastating drake lightning attack more accurate, for MORE mortal wounds

The big question I have for all this is really my Battleline. RIght now, I am bringing the Aquilor to give me the Vanguard Hunters as Battleline. My thinking is that I want a very mobile army, and with the Aquilor's command ability and the astral compasses, I can really maximize that. But would I be better off dropping those and using something more basic?

Crossbow judicators dropping onto objectives perhaps?

I'm a little behind on my formations, what ones allow them to drop in?

It's the battle trait for SE allegiance. If everything in your army is Stormcast they all gain the option of staying in reserve and deep striking in.

You get to start rolling for them from turn 1. 3+ they arrive and teleport in 9" or more away from enemy units.

Oh really? Well heck, that's awesome!

Anyway, new version of the list of 2000 points:

Leaders:

Lord-Celestant on Stardrake

Battleline:

2 units of 5 Judicators

Other:

2 units of 4 Fulminators

Leaves me with 120 points left over for another hero. Thinking a Lord Relictor?

8 Fulminators is seriously nasty against armies that rely on shooting or low rend attacks. But against armies with a high mortal wound output you might find they don't last all that long.

My friend who plays Stormcast has 2x2 units of Fulminators and they can be a lot for my Freeguild to handle (I would only ever bother to shoot them with Mortal Wound as regular attacks never get past their saves), but that means it's down to my Hurricanum and Wizards to get rid of them.

Why not downsize the Fulminators and go for something else that's a but more rounded?

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Such as what? I'm going for speed and punching power as my main goals.

Maybe some Prosecutors with Javelins or some Palladors , both units have a good reputation and creating a more varied list makes your army more adaptable (and not to mention more fun to play with). :-)

How about changing one unit of judicators to liberators and change one or both units of prosecutors to javlin? That way you could still afford either a relictor or castelant. Might help you with specific scenarios and the buffs are great
