We find comfort among those who agree with us - growth among those who don't. - Frank Howard Clark
The wise man doubts often, and changes his mind; the fool is obstinate, and doubts not; he knows all things but his own ignorance.
The correct statement of individual rights is that everyone has the right to an opinion, but crucially, that opinion can be roundly ignored and even made fun of, particularly if it is demonstrably nonsense!” Professor Brian Cox
What is this, exactly? another skirmish level game, or something else? This art, and the figures seem like I have seen them somewhere before, who are the sculptor and artist?
Any information on what this game is about?
At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.
Minis are great, KS founder seems passionate and prepared, and the rules seem streamlined but evocative of the setting on initial read-through. Backed for a couple bucks to see how things proceed, but so far so good.
The game is funded now, and the first 5 stretch goals unlocked (the other 2 factions, the Militia and the Bondsmen, a rules cheat sheet that comes free with any applicable pledge, a4 full colour rulebook and the Oviraptor minis).
Thanks for the kind words here folks- I'm the game creator- just thought I'd drop in to answer anyone's questions if you have any?
We are currently over 600% funded and have a heap of unlocks, including a bunch of cool dinosaur minis and a girl riding a raptor, because why not!
Just also announced a fifth "merc" faction who can be used together, or as part of another faction.
I need to process the images, but we had a fantastic day at Salute last weekend, demoed the game for a good 100 people and got amazing feedback and response all round. Plus we got to feed a T-Rex 47 innocent wargamers!
I do the love the look of this, the models are great so decided to back it as even though I am always a bit wary of Kickstarters by a small team but this does look pretty professional and from what I can see the guy running it seems pretty engaged with his community!
Thanks Rufus. I'm definitely passionate, but I also hold myself to pretty high standards of professionalism as well. Community pretty much IS a miniatures game as far as Im concerned, and so there'll be lots of engagement.
I've gone to considerable lengths to avoid the usual kick-starter issues by going through several production cycles ahead of time and ensuring that things are close to ready to roll as soon as the campaign ends. I've had two years to prepare after all. What's the point in rushing, and getting it wrong?
Anyway, thought I'd post up a link to the Youtube channel where i've thrown together some basic tutorials to teach the basics. There will be more of these, but with just over a week to go on the Kickstarter I'm putting them on the back burner and concentrating on ending with a bang.
I'd love it if a few of you fine people joined us!
Super excited to see this game released!!!!! I'm really glad it is fully funded too. The unique setting is what really drew me to it. The community is really growing too. Check out the unofficial page too. The only bummer is that I live in the states so I couldn't get demos at Salute. If any of you guys happen to be in the Charlotte NC area June 2-4 stop by ConCarolinas where I will be doing some mini demos.
This looks interesting, small scale games are definitely my thing nowadays.
I've got the worlds most awful net connection (just surfing Dakka is a chore) and can't watch videos (or get on to your website), so mind if I ask some questions?
How many crews do you plan to have?
How large do you plan to make the model pool for each crew? Is there going to be a point where we can say a crew is done and do you have any concerns of model bloat if there isn't?
Have you plans to scale up the game much further than what you have shown with 5 small'ish models a side? I can see 50mm bases fitting in well, but are we going to get giant or gargantuan sized models? Are we going to get 30+ models a side, taking it above a skirmish game?
The character cards suggest that they are straight forward picks with limited customisation. Is there much customisation possible and is there a points system for selecting your team?
@Henry - I am sure the designer will be along to answer these soon but I can say from the videos that there is 4 crews unlocked, a fifth Merc crew in the works and he has spoken of how he has a lot of the backstory of the world/factions already fleshed out so lots of potential to grow!
Hey guys- thanks for the interest and the kind words.
The special dice - the symbol on the Feat die denotes a special result. They aren't neccessary, but it is necessary to use two dice of different colours (and remember which one should have the special symbol on the 1).
Henry- Shortly there will be 5 crews- a fifth mercenary crew is possible now we have a number of mercenary models coming, which can be used with any faction.
I can certainly forsee that increasing to seven or eight in the future, but probably no more than that. I don't want to go in to detail about future plans because they're still very much in the air, but I certainly hope to expand the crew number to more than five.
Because pirates .
I don't plan on "finishing" factions, so to speak. I don't really imagine model bloat is going to be a problem, as the game is not a synergistic combo game akin to a CCG, where unexpected interactions will cause imbalance.
I think if you look at a game like Malifaux or Batman, that's the sort of scale TDE is designed to operate in. Going over about 12 or 15 models will make the game ungainly, and take away the character based flavour, which is important in the narrative feel. 5-10 will be normal.
However, I do plan on making sure it's just as viable to take a 5 man crew as a 15 man crew at the same points value, provided you build your list intelligently.
Yes there is a points system, and each crew will have multiple options in the future. The dinosaur models are faction neutral so that right off the bat you can get a bit of list building going. This also applies to the mercenary models who are not available at the moment, but will be incorporated in to the range to work together as a fifth faction, or individually with any other crew.
In the future though, we'll probably limit how much you can mix and match outside your own crew, but of course that's only possible when the range has grown a bit.
You can see our master studio painter at work, giving away all his pro tips!
Pop along. We'd love to have you!
if only I could paint like this, still its great to see Sage in the flesh (so to speak) and that the model is exactly like the render - makes me quite positive the others will be the same quality so upped my pledge a bit to get all 4 factions!
