OK, this is my story of
40k: back in my teens I used to collect lizardmen for warhammer fantasy. I hated painting and modelling, and was mostly clueless as to how you did that- things like thinned paints, layering, shading, washes, highlighting, that was beyond me. I'd slap a coat of paint on things and then proceed to get annihilated by my best friend on his kitchen table, because I was too nooby to bring things like temple guard or a slann. I had a lot of fun, but eventually fell out of the hobby.
Fast forward 10-12 years. Although I no longer wargamed, I had cultivated a fascination for
40k, mostly through games like dawn of war and space marne. The lore was awesome, and so were the books- I still have space wolf, and I think ciaphas cain is fantastic.
So almost a year ago, I go to a convention, and buy a box of fire warriors on a whim. I told myself it was silly- I probably wouldn't even assemble them. Then I assembled them, and I told myself okay, but painting the will be a pain in the ass, I'll never do that.
Half a year later, with the support of my local club, I have a fully functional army, which went from amateurishly terrible paint jobs to smoothed-out work I was actually proud of. It's been hella fun, and I love the hobby part as much as the gaming- even though painting *still* is a pain in the ass.
I've used dakka as a resource for a while now, and I figured it would be a good place to go, be part of the community.
So who am I? I'm an aspie nerd from sweden, basically. I got a factory job, but I hope to apply for the local university soon, make something of myself. I'm opinionated, but I try my best to be respectful of others. I like a wide range of stuff fiction-wise, from anime to books to video games, and
40k naturally. I also collect a bit of
AoS on the side, as I love the models- it's just a shame that the lore is so bad, when
WHFB lore was really awesome. I game, I paint, and I also write, in the hopes that maybe one day I'll write a fantasy novel. I'm fat, I'm tall, I'm awkward, and I'm a nerd to the bone.
Hi dakka! I hope we'll get along
