Greetings, brothers,

I have an 1850 Stronghold Assault tournament coming up, and need some help on which direction to take my list. Requirement for the tournament are that I take at least one fortification. I'm taking an Aegis Defense Line. I'm still fairly new back in the game, and have yet to use a fortification. I've come up with the following ideas:

1. Treat it like a 50 point tax; stick it somewhere and forget about it.
-1A. I'll be taking a scout sniper squad (to use up an Elite slot)...I could place the Aegis line for best tactical advantage and emplace scouts within.

2. Upgrade Aegis line with either quadcannon/lascannon (our meta is flyer heavy)
-2A. Stick with emplaced scouts to use gun. Downside is their relatively low BS 4.
-2B. Bring in Sergeant Telion to use gun. I'll be using allied SM's for librarian bikers buffing my TW's, so Telion would be a 50 pt. addition to run the Aegis' gun with a BS 6, Precision Shot, and some other shooting-orienting bonuses.

Option 1 requires little tailoring to my planned list (Wolfstar with two Techmarines, Wulfen for their buffs, Librarius conclave on bikes to buff everybody). It'd just be a 50 pt. tax.

Option 2 could require a little more tailoring (to work in Telios and the Aegis' gun), or a lot of tailoring if I decided to add more units to the Aegis line...I could throw some shooty units like Long Fangs or Grey Hunters back there (I could use also use the Deathpack bonus to make sure my plasmas never blow up in my face, for example).

The local meta is very shooting heavy...TAU, mechanized Orks, Guard, and everybody seems to have flyers. The biggest problem I've had has been getting my TW's into assault without heavy casualties (even when giving at least 2/3 Cavalrywolves a stormshield) so I'm going with a Librarius conclave to roll for Invis and VoT.

Thanks in advance for any help pointing me in the right direction!

To get your TWC into battle you have two ways: increase their number (like two units and 10-12 thunderwolves in total including the eventual ICs) or/and add the wulfen murderpack with adds some extra movements to the TWC and offer a couple of different juicy targets for the opponent.

I usually play two units of 5 thunderwolves including a lord and 2-3 of 5 wulfen, they alway arrive into combat. A single unwieldy weapon in each thunderwolves squad and 3-4 shields for 5 riders.

Alternative if you like alliances stick celestine with your TWC to soak all the opponent's firepower.

A single unit of TWC is a high priority target for the opponent who will fire everything at them. Especially if you run a super expensive wolfstar.

Expensive but if your meta is flyer-heavy have you considered the Firestorm Redoubt? 4 TL interceptor/skyfire lascannons rarely go awry. Can upgrade them to BS3 if you like. 6 slots for long fangs to shoot from inside too

Brother Payne: I did look at the Firestorm...I might add it in to my rotation at some point. For now, the Aegis is coming this week and the tourney's next weekend, so Aegis is what it'll be.

Do you have any idea what your opponents might be bringing to the party by way of fortifications?
Knowing that could give you an idea on how to tackle your list, I'd start by ditching the Lone Wolves for an Elite Iron Priest, Servitor(s) and a Drop Pod.
Servitors and Iron Priests have S8 ap1 goodness standard.
Drop Pod the unit close to the fortification, use the Pod as Cover, fix it during your shooting phase, charge the fortification - since it can't be locked in combat rinse and repeat.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Dakka Wolf: I have no idea what they'll be bringing...knowing my meta, anything from the bare minimum to some heavy stuff. I'm definitely taking your idea of dumping the Lone Wolf for an Elite IP and Drop Pod. I especially like how this will come in on turn one and take some heat off my cavalry's advance. How many servitors should I bring, and is it worth bringing some armed with multi-meltas, etc? I can get more points by taking out one of my Rune Priests, if need be (I'll still roll OK w/ 3 Priests vs. 4).

Don't drop the Rune Priests, they're your flexibility. I woudn't take more Servitors unless you have spare points.
