With GeeDubs announcement today covering the long awaited arrival of 40k 8th Edition coupled with the announcement from a few weeks ago announcing the release of new Death Guard models, what do you people think are the chances that the two will be released simultaneously? What are the chances of the 8th Edition starter set being Death Guard vs Space Marines? Is there any example of a new army or new sizable model line being released at the same time as a new edition of the rules? What do you guys and gals think?
It wouldn't really be that bad as a certain lovable auction site could get them to us for cheap. Or those of us with 30k Death Shroud or Grave Warden terminators could make something happen.
The Stormcast Eternals from the Starter Set were released as separate units after that, so is totally posible to have Monopose Deathguard for the Starter and then normal boxes with multicomponent marines.
Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be Death Guard and Space Marines: I've got a hunch it's going to be Ultramarines, too.
Personally, I would have made 3 starter sets to kick off the new edition - one for each of the matchups between the three "Sides":
-Imperium vs. Chaos, Ultramarines + DG -Imperium vs. Xenos, IG + Orks
-Chaos vs. Xenos, Daemons + Eldar
Or something like that... just me wishlisting, of course

I would love three starter sets to get my hands on. My bank balance, on the other hand...
we're assuming there will BE a starter set as we conventionally know it. given the shift in how they're doing things, start collecting boes might be the "Starter sets of the future"
Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Admittedly you're right, it is an assumption - but they DID have that very auspicious line in the new FAQ...
What’s in the new starter box? A new starter box? That’d be exciting! I guess we’d fill it with some awesome new miniatures… (come on, we can’t spoil all the surprises for you!)
I think there is a solid chance. I think this is good/bad.
1) May be partially one-piece or snap fit models...which is fine for modeling, but tedious for conversions.
2) May be dirt cheap as people sell them off on eBay (yay!)
3) Could be actual full standard model kits included in the starter (which would be odd). Starter kits really need to be stick-together + play for the new audience. Imagine the horror on some poor kids face if they opened up Betrayal at Calth or Burning of Prospero and had no experience building/assembling miniatures...?
I think they may be full sets. GW hasn't done snap-fits in a long time.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Here's hoping! I never liked the snap-fit idea, even if it did make things easier in the starter sets. At the time, I thought that GW should have had some more confidence in the appeal of their offering and the intelligence of the younger market they were trying to attract with the starters. I got into 40k as a young kid; building my own figs wasn't intimidating, it was engaging. It put the creativity in my own hands and all that.
Now assuming that it is DG and Loyalist Marines there are two likely outcomes IMO. Will it be that we get Ultramarines with the proper iconography like the DA in the Dark Vengeance box or will we get generic marines with a transfer sheet with various chapter's iconography like we did with Assault on Black Reach? I'm more inclined to believe the latter

It would earn them more profit to have no iconography, but I think if they do any it will be Ultramarines.
I actually think Deathguard in the starter or released only as an 8th edition release would be pretty cool.
I've started Tzeentch daemons so I can play in AoS as well, but cheap Death Guard on eBay from starter sets would definitely tempt me.
Balance in pick up games? Two people, each with their own goals for the game, design half a board game on their own without knowing the layout of the board and hope it all works out. Good luck with that. The faster you can find like minded individuals who want the same things from the game as you, the better.
