My first Horus Heresy army list, what do experienced 30k players think of the Orbital Strike Rite of War? I haven't used a full drop pod list very much in 40k, so it seemed like a fun direction to go for 30k. I always liked my Chaos Marines Dreadclaw when I used the first one a few times; it doesn't look like they can eat my guys in 30k either )

I used the Quartermaster app to make the list....

Iron Warriors Orbital Strike Force
Legiones Astartes

Warsmith: Rite of War (Orbital Assault); Paragon blade; iron halo; servo-arm; Battlesmith 185
4 Space Marine Chosen: Standard Bearer (power fist); 3 Space Marine Chosen; 3 × power weapon 135

Primus Medicae: artificer armour 105

10 Tactical Space Marines: Tactical Sergeant; 9 Tactical Space Marines 125
Drop Pod 35

10 Tactical Space Marines: Tactical Sergeant (artificer armour; power fist); 9 Tactical Space Marines; chainswords 170
Drop Pod 35

4 Tyrant Siege Terminators 200

Contemptor Dreadnought Talon
Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod 115
Contemptor Dreadnought: multi-melta 175

Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod 115

Anvillus Pattern Dreadclaw Drop Pod 115

The Primarch Perturabo: Forgebreaker 490

This is a pretty good argument for not using quartermaster. You cant take 4 tyrants, Minimum squad size is 5 and maximum is 10 which makes your list 95 points over just due to the tyrants.
I would reccomed if you are going to run a list like this to take 10 tyrants and deep strike them with perty and take that command squad and warsmith in termie armour so they can deep strike too.

Aw, poop. Back to the drawing board. I didn't buy the red books at Adepticon because I heard 8th edition of 40k was coming out so I figured that would require a complete reboot of 30k......plus Forgeworld refused to acknowledge the correct exchange rate.

30K won't be changing over to 8th edition anytime soon.

That Adepticon exchange rate was total . Their exchange rate was US$1.50 to PS£1.00. The actual rate during the show was $1.23 to £1.00. It was actually cheaper to buy US$350+ and get the free shipping from the website then shop at the show.

Yea there really isnt any point buying the books unless you really want to or have no other way of accessing the information, 30k will probably be an 8th edition game by the end of the year, GW would never be silly enough to leave it at 7th for any longer than absolutely needed to get the 40k forgeworld stuff sorted.

Based on how long it takes Forge World to write a single HH book, I expect 30K to remain 7th Ed until at least the end of 2018, if not longer. They still have two, maybe three more books left before we get to Terra. After that, FW has already said they will start "campaign" books for the Heresy, and that would be a perfect time to convert 30K over to 8th edition. Keeping it 7th edition costs them nothing.

I guess the transition to 8th will give me plenty of time to actually paint my 30k units

I'm reluctant to deepstrike Perturabo as I want him in turn 1, and his reserves thing is only good 2/3 of the time for turn 1.

I think I could just omit 1 Dreadclaw and get that Tyrant Sgt. in the unit to make it proper. Then I can add 20 points of something to someone.

Looks like Kharybdisses got cheaper though, that's a tempting thing to make!
