An All Quiet on the Martian Front battle report

Mullan Pass is one of only a handful of passes that is deemed passable by Tripods across the Rocky Mountains. As such, holding them is paramount. Not because of the shipping yards of Tacoma, or the millions of Americans on the west coast, but because if these are cleared, then there are that many more Martians that can be deployed to break the all-important Mississippi line.

"Maximum amount of concrete and minimum amount of bodies."

Good line.

I sort of borrowed that line. There was a Marine commander, a regiment I believe, who burned through his troops in frontal assaults trying to take a jungled hill. In a meeting of the other regimental heads, he was trying to borrow troops from the other commanders to make up his losses. The General in charge of the division had been very ill up to this point, and only just landed on the island. He came in on this part of the conversation from one of the other regimental commanders, "I intend to take that hill with the maximum amount of firepower and the minimum number of bodies." The General reportedly agreed and said, "Sounds good to me."
