Looks like we got our big bad for this one. And apparently a story mode.

Pretty clear from the first trailer who the big bad was, but nice to have it confirmed. It would have been nice to not completely chump X if you're going to make the villain have of his nemesis though.

Standard for the industry, though. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a fighting game that doesn't have DLC these days. Injustice 2, due out next month, is already advertising that it will have at least 9 DLC fighters (since that's how many additional free fighters you get for purchasing the "Ultimate Edition" of that game - as opposed to "only" 3 for getting the Deluxe Edition, and just Darkseid for pre-ordering the regular version). And the steady constant releases for SFV have kept Capcom from doing the usual "Ultra Super" versions of that game that the company usually does.

Plus, the existing catalogue of Capcom and Marvel characters means that there is a *huge* reservoir that they can draw upon instead of just creating brand new characters for the game. And fans for those characters.

Yeah, I don't see that as a bad thing. Even MvC3 had an Ultimate edition, which released like 12 more characters and a bunch of fixes. Ongoing support for a game (DLC and tweaks) is better for a fighting game, as it keeps them alive in the Fighting Game Community. Hell, even Smash had DLC characters

I don't mind DLC in general because I do enjoy the additions one can do.. I just tend to mind it when you're already announcing 4+ characters upon launch as DLC. Especially if it's potentially on-disk DLC.

This is unlikely.

Street Fighter V is currently in its second "season". Each season runs for a year. For each season, Capcom has offered a pass that allows you to get the six fighters that are being released as DLC that season. Note that those fighters are released one at a time over the course of the season. Only two of the Season 2 fighters have been released so far.

So if MvC: Infinite follows the pattern set by Street Fighter V, Capcom is essentially offering people who buy the Deluxe Edition the opportunity to pay for the first season's DLC fighters as part of the purchase cost of the game.

The start of the story mode of the game is currently available for download for the PS4 and Xbox1. Note that while Steam is slated to get the game, this doesn't appear to be available on Steam right now. The download offers a look at the early portions of the storyline, and a bunch of the characters that will be in the game (but note that quite a few known characters are also *not* in the download; for instance, the Deluxe edition offers costumes for Thor, Ryu, Hulk, and Mega Man X, but only Thor and Mega Man X are in the content that's available right now).

There's no multi-player capability. This is purely the intro to the story.
