Haha, I expected a long, tedious rant about how 7th rocks and 8th has wrecked our game and community.

Kudos Sir

I will definitely miss the flamer template, as well as the Imperial Guard demolition charge. 6" range large blast template = "HOT POTATO!"

But I will equally not miss:

Fiddling with scatter dice
Arguing over how many models are under a template
Resolving wounds with multiple templates (Wyvern says hi)
Resolving wounds in multi-level terrain, large model clusters, or other awkward situations
The insistence on spreading out units precisely to minimize blast damage
Forgetting where I put my templates

I have a feeling Ember is trying to tell us something but I can't for the life of me think what it could be...

It's there to represent the emptiness that lives within us all, now that flame templates are gone.

No more scatter dice it sounds like.

No more small blasts scattering back farther than you could throw them into your own face.

Carnifex Bioplasma might be a thing again! woo!

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Yeah, I'm going to miss dropping pie plates from down town on people, and using the flame template. I personally am not convinced yet the new way is better.

But oh well...guess we wait and see. I have a Sisters army so....BBQ is the name of the game.

Yeah we will see, I like the new system because I think it allows for more variety in weapons than the current system. Now they may not make use of the ability for that variety but it exists.

I followed OPs advice, turned on that music and really scrolled down slowly. Man, now I'm sad :(

Out of all leaks for the new edition the loss of the flamer template is really the only bad thing

Glad to see the back of templates quite frankly.

Fewer arguements over placing, wounds, drive-by Burna Boyz in trukks, etc.

Oh, and template sniping!

Will also speed up the game.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

While Templates have been an iconic part of the game, the new way of dealing with damage will be faster, and have less arguments about how many guys are hit. I'm not sure what I'll do with my templates now, though. Probably hold on to them for sentimental value or in case I start playing 30k.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

I'll miss them.
No more "accidentally" putting blast and flame templates over Warp Spiders.
No more backfire scatters.
No more multi-unit shots.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

I disagree.

I can't stand multi-unit shots.

"You are shooting the heavy flamer at the very corner of my rhino, and you just so happen also to be hitting like 3 units of marines which are near the rhino? Why are...and there's the multi-melta into the rhino and then the subsequent charge into the rhino. That's why."

Yeah, good riddance.

No more gaming the rules so that you can TECHNICALLY "target" one unit while actually trying to deal damage to a second unit.

I also like that this is a direct buff to MSU and horde armies.

The template rule says that you have to cover as many of the opponent's models in the unit as you can.

It doesn't say anything, as far as I remember, about targeting vehicles.

When targeting a vehicle you must get as much of the vehicle as possible under the template.

Actually, Dakka Wolf, I do leave you with this consideration:

Consider the fact that, in 8th edition, we won't even be having these rules discussions, simply because there will be fewer rules to memorized and things are going to be more streamlined.

You know they'll be as poorly written and confusing as they were in 7th. Only bright side is the "New GW" clarifies every now and then in FAQs.
