I want to hear about some absolutely off-the-wall XWing lists that nobody really takes, but that are still effective.

Here's my submission: "Knights of Ren", which I first discovered while listening to the Mynock Squadron podcast.

Kylo Ren: 44 points
-Swarm Leader
-Rebel Captive
-Pattern Analyzer
-Title

Delta Squadron Pilot (X2): 28 points
-TIE/x7 Title

Think of it as the opposite of Palp Aces; the shuttle is the damage dealer, while the other ships are there as support and to power up Kylo's 6-die turbolaser. Rebel Captive seems to synergize very will with Kylo's ability, Pattern Analyzer helps to compensate for the Upsilon's awful dial, and the Title gives more opportunities for stressing enemy ships (potentially stressing another already stressed ship due to the wording ).

What other crazy-but-workable lists have you all thought up? Any success with them on the table?

this one was for a monthly tournament last month. it was a 125pts one ace only, no large ships tournament.

i ran this:

Whisper
Adaptability
ACD
Recon Specialist
Collision Detector

2X Glaive pilots
twin ions
Tie/D
VI
tracor beam

Academy Tie pilot.

came in second overall. no one expects the phantom to be throwing red's after the glaives have shot and taken all of the agility....

Some dude brought like

2x Black Sun Enforcers

and

IG-88B
PTL
HLC
and either FCS or Advanced sensors.

He used the Star Vipers as blockers

Had another crazy blocker list with

2x Sigma Squadron Pilots
ACD
Intel Agent
Sensor Jammers

Turr Phennir
VI
Stealth
Autothrusters

Both were crazy. Using expensive ships as blockers. But both did pretty well in local tourneys.

Ah, Turr Phennir, the gold standard of the trash tier...

We don't do crazy, in my meta, unfortunately. Everyone is pretty sedate. Rhymer with title/Snap Shot/Tactician was about as jazzy as we got lately.

In my mind, you're all superstars and I'm just lucky I got invited to the party.

I'm sure Peregrine must be great around a BBQ with a beer/drink/glass of water. Honestly it's the only part I hate about begin part of a global community.

I tend to fly what ever ships I like if not practicing for tourneys but for the truly crazy fun lists I have found epic games to be the best. As I pretty much only fly scum I have great success in flying themed (fluffy) lists like;

All of the ESB bounty hunters together.
Mando party (Boba, Mando Merc, Sabine and Protectorates)
Black Sun (Xizor, Guri, Enforcers, Soldiers, Aces etc.)

They have all proven to be very good.

Yes I know no one plays epic, it sucks blahblah...

One list I dealt with during a local tournament, I think it was 120 points or something, it was a while ago. It had 5 Tie Bombers in it, with the guy who lets people re-roll secondary weapons when they're nearby him, all with Extra Munitions, and Plasma Torpedoes, I think Guidance Chips, an Ion bomb on one, and some other stuff. it was only effective because, unlike everyone who brought expensive large ship aces, Dengar, Boba, stuff like that, and none of us had the firepower to take out them, and getting pounded by 2-3 Plasma torps a round, does a number to a ship. It also helps that the guy flying it is great at flying, so he flew circles around most of us. It was, unusual to say the least.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

Dumbest idea I've had success with is Corran/Miranda. PTL Corran and a 52-point k-wing, and somehow it wins games. And, for the record, I took it to regionals as a joke long before it had any serious tournament success.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I think that this just goes to show that the dividing line between "Dumb" and "Brilliant" is rather very hazy.

5 strikers works fairly well - it's surprising how lethal they are flying as a pack, and they actually have the manouvrability to hang on to a boosting large base ship.
