My gaming group has decided to stick with 7the edition when 8th drops, and we're going to get some extra copies of 7th The Rules, as well as an extra copy of each of the 7th-compatible codices, to accommodate new players to our group.

What do you think would be a fair price for the 7th edition rules and for a 7th codex or supplement.

I'm thinking about offering $10 for the rules, and $5 for the codices.

I'm thinking about listing some Wanted ads instead of eBay hunting...would I be low balling with these numbers?

You can't really take an informed decision before you get, you know, the information.

But sure, go ahead, for most people this is worthless.

The best way for you to get a price range is to check how much outdated (v6,v5) codexes go for on ebay.

Well, I wasn't really trying to open the thread to argue the merits of upgrading vs. not upgrading.

Thanks for the advice! I'll see what old versions are going for on eBay to get an idea.

Damn...lowest I saw was 20 bucks for 6th edition rules on eBay. Seems steep. I think I may just put a lowball ad up at my flgs and see if I can catch anything.

You'll likely get the best prices shortly after launch.

RT and 2nd ed. books seem to go for as much as they did new, and Battlefleet Gothic and Necromunda seem to go for a lot more.

Check used book stores and comic shops. I see out of print 6th ed codexes go for anywhere from 5-15 CAD there.

For rulebooks, I say 20 for the big one isn't that unreasonable. However the small one might as well be free considering how many sets it came in.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

Wait a bit, then head to half priced books.

I've seen lots of 4th and 5th edition codecies and rulebooks there in the past several years. 6th and 7th books should start making the rounds.

Thanks, I'd never even heard of that site. I'll check it out after 8th drops for prices.

I've never actually gone to a website, just their stores.

Gotcha. We don't have that store anywhere near me. But there is a Half Priced Books website, not sure if it's the same business as you're talking about or not.

Probably is, yes. I've been lucky to have a handful of them near me in Houston and Northern IL.

I think it is unlikely you'll find them that cheaply. The mini-rulebooks you can probably get very cheap for the old edition I mean the current mini rulebook is $10 on ebay. Older editions cheaper. So if you are ok without the hardback rules that part will be cheap.

But a lot of people keep old codices for the fluff, art, etc. Throw in that many of those books were close to $50 new (for hard back) or $30 (for Paperback). I would expect to pay at least $10 for each codex maybe more. For instance the Dark Angles 6E book is selling for an average of $16 on ebay right now.

I will say that unless you are only bringing friends into the group I think trying to maintain a community using the old edition will be tough.

Our group is pretty small to begin with. We've got 4 very active players (including myself) and 4 more "once in a while players". To be honest, I don't live in an affluent area, and alot of new players we get can't afford the hobby in the first place, and depend on us to provide rules and models anyways, so I don't see it being much of a change to what we are already doing.

PUGs and tournamnets at the flgs is another story...but I don't do that too much anyways. Most 40K players there are not in my age group. Middle aged fogeys like me at the store are almost all only interested in historicals, MtG, or RPGs.

Yeah a small group can do more or less anything they want so long as they all agree. Plenty of RP groups keep old editions of games going because they are just that. Stores, and PUGs tend to be a lot more likely to update because it is easier to maintain a crowd.

I'll sell you my mini rulebook... but yeah the codices should be pretty cheap on eBay in a short while.
