I remember Reaper doing a KS to bring their CAV game to bones. What ever happened to the actual game? Never seen it crop up, even on throwback-thursdays around here

I have a PDF copy of the rules, but haven't gotten into it.

The original version was a neat, fast paced game, but lacked depth.

Second Edition seems to have added a lot of layers of complication, trying to be more Battletech-like, but it just doesn't grab me. Maybe if I get a few games under my belt I might change my mind. As it is, I see no reason to jump into it since I already have Battletech.

I have all the books for 1st edition, but I don;t think they have really been able to get it off the ground.

The Cav minis are cool and a good value in the bones materials.
I read beta versions of the CAV rules and was not impressed. Just felt like they were trying to do too much.

My advice is buy some CAV minis, buy Armor Grid Games "Mech Attack!" rules and enjoy some beer-and-pretezels mech gaming.

I second Elif's idea. Buy CAV models, and then use them in a different setting.

I think CAV needs more youtube publicity. Look at Infinity and their first nine youtube videos explaining the races. Those videos made me think the game was cool and attractive.

Keep up the fight!

I bought several CAV minis and use them with a custom rules set...

The fluff is not so good, but I do like the rules in small games.
I love the retro 90's artwork in the book, reminds me happily of Mech Warrior and Total Anniliation.

I got some GW blue gem paint (The Soulstone Blue Technical paint) to give the cockpit screens a transparent look.

I am quite happy with these models in Bones, but I will wait till Reaper move production to the USA before I buy anymore.

CAV is still available through the Reaper website.

Miniatures here.

You can also visit the Talon Games website: Talon Games.

I spoke to the owner and designer of Talon Games/CAV at Adepticon. Think his name is John? Really big and tall guy- like 6'6"+. Older gentleman too. Anyways, nice guy. But it's all a one man operation. He pretty much does everything. In speaking to a few more people about Cav ("Industry Insiders"), he doesn't play well with others and Reaper is distancing themselves from Talon Games.

Is Reaper planning on moving Bones production to the USA? I hadn't heard about that but it'd be an interesting choice.

I think the entire CAV line is still available in metal produced in the USA by Reaper but it's considerably more expensive than Bones.

It was announce some years(?) ago, but has been a work in progress. Maybe they have given up on moving Bones to the USA? I have not checked up on the situation since last year.

I happily order metal minis from Reaper, but I am not keen on metal CAV's as I started them in Bones so I am only interested in continuing them in Bones.

I'm confused - I thought the CAV minis had all been converted over to Bones (as one of the Bones KS's - maybe #2?), but it looks like on the Reaper site it says they are metal - though they look like some sort of resin?

I'd like to pick a handful up ($5 per seems pretty good price), but I'd like to be sure what material they really are.

Looks like something has happened on the site. The boneyard (metal bits) and Robot suppy depot (previous source of metal CAV's) are both empty. Except for some infantry, the stuff in the cav section all looks to be cast in Bones. Look at each mins listing and it will be labeled as cast in "Bones" or "Pewter".

Metal Mecha might be available by downloading the NIC (Not in Catalog) list. Supposedly Reaper will sell you almost anything they've ever produced as long as it's not covered by an expired license. It's a big file (lots of pics), but probably has what you're looking for here:

They're not going to be cheap though. IIRC, the last round of metal prices for CAV's ranged from $15-20 bucks or more.
