I found the starter box for FASA's Renegade Legion Centurion when going through some old stuff. It looks like everything was in the box, some of the tanks had the ends of their turrets bent or broken off so they were a little short, but all of the miniatures, the counters and markers, the books all were there. Does anyone remember this game, or any of the other Renegade Legion games?

I do. I own all of the Renegade Legion games and still find them good fun. I've always been a fan of FASA's rule sets. There is a company that still produces the miniatures, http://www.pfc-cinc.com/rl_gravtanks.html. They even have the ships from Renegade Legion star fighters. I've ordered them and they are of good quality. Have fun.

I remember having the starter and playing around with it, and I also had the RPG rulebook.

I don't remember ever seeing anybody playing the games or anything other than the base games/rulebooks in stores.

My cousin had a copy of the Renegade Legion starfighter game, he gave it to me when he dropped out of gaming. At some point they changed the boxed set - I think the original had fold-up starships and later editions had flat tokens for the ship.

I used to be into combat flight simulators, and had the Jacob's Star video game as well. It had a pretty good soundtrack, especially "Killing Time".

I could never find a copy of the Centurion game, though - always wanted to give it a try.

BTW, that link to the mini's isn't working - I'm getting a 404 on it. Can it be reposted, I'd really like to pick up the actual ship miniatures.

It never ends well

I was looking through the background book that talks about the factions: the TOG, Commonwealth and Renegade Legion and the grav tanks and it sounded pretty interesting. Also found a separate book called Shannedam County that provides background information and history on the worlds being fought over.

Looking through the catalog that was in the box, it looks like there were several boxed games in the universe. Centurion which was the ground warfare, interceptor which was aerospace and Leviathan which was capital ships. Also a couple other games one that sounded like it was more of a large scale strategy and one that was a roleplaying. Also there were some other reference books on the vehicles, the grav tanks, fighters and capital ships, and additional miniatures you could have ordered at the time.

Good post.

Here is a breakdown of the various games:

Interceptor was the space/air fighter game
Centurion was the ground-based grav-tank game
Leviathan was the space/capital ship game
Prefect was the strategic war game
Legionnaire was the RPG.
Circus Maximus was an "in-universe" game that involved grav-chariot races. Think Ben Hur in spaaaace!

Here is a list of the FASA and Nightshift Games Renegade Legion products: http://www.waynesbooks.com/RenegadeLegion.html

FASA re-used the damage tracking from Centurion/Interceptor for Crimson Skies. So if you are familiar with CS you'd immediately recognize how Centurion's weapons work.

I never got in to the RL games, but they seemed interesting.

You'd likely feel at home with Centurion. It has an essence of Battletech's game play and turn sequence, but the damage is handled in a more in-depth way.

I always wanted to play Battletech with the RL damage system. That would be pretty neat. I seem to recall some rules that did just that floating around online years ago but I actually used them.

I've still got them all (although goodness knows where circus Maximus has gone) and played them all back in the day,

plus I ran a campaign with the RPG too

I still take Interceptor out for a game now and again as it's fairly simple to play and teach

Centurion is probably too granular for many nowadays (about like original battletech)

Leviathan I suspect I never actually played right, but was cool for the fleet on fleet action,

and I probably never actually used Prefect as my gaming group had broken up and I'd left University by the time it came out

I played a little of the first version of the rules and it was fun and interesting. The 2.0 rules have been done by a different person, but being as I had a go with the first version 15 or so years ago, it's nice to see someone having a go at continuing them.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I played this back in the early 90's. Far more accessible than Interceptor.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Big fan of the whole series, particularly leviathan and the rpg. Centurion was alot of fun and loved the damage charts for the different rounds. IT was a game ahead of its time

I loved Interceptor when it came out but I was in Heaven when Centurion was released! I was very involved in armor modeling at the time so anything tank-related was up my alley.

I actually got the opportunity to play Centurion against Jordan Weisman at GenCon/Origins '88 and, for a few years, hung out a lot with Sam Lewis at any con we both happened to be attending.

I would love to have the computer games again - any idea if there are compatible versions through GOG or something?

That's it! Thanks for posting I'll have to give those rules a try.

Centurion was a bit too detailed for my tastes, but I did really like the figures for it and had a ton (long since sold off or given away).

The Centurion damage system was also reused for FASA's Crimson Skies.
I found that easy to teach, and the clicky versions are still around and cheap to quickly build a force
