So I started collecting 40k minis again, right before 8th edition was announced. I may or may not take the jump into it depending on what my local scene looks like after the release. In the meantime, I'm looking at all the different games I could play using my (small, but growing) collection.

-Tomorrow's War by Ambush Alley Games is the first thing that comes to mind. Once you get out the scalpel and cut away the fat, it is a solid and easily adapted system, and I enjoy the platoon level combat with the focus on individual squads.

So does Dakka have any other suggestions for a solid game that could be played in 20 or 28mm?

I know of a couple.

If I hadn't sold off my 40k stuff years ago, I'd probably be using One Page Rules' Grimdark Future.

Alternatively, you can try Dakka's very own Easy E's set of rules, Rampant Stars, a sci-fi version of the popular Lion/Dragon Rampant rules from Osprey.

After a quick look, I like both. I tip my hat to you good sir.

EDIT: I just realized I put this in the wrong forum. Oops.

Two Hour War-games has a few sets that will work (depending on the scale you want to play) and you can try their system free.

Not for everybody, but very solo and cooperative friendly.

Thanks for the shout out Infinity Array! If you are interested in seeing a comparison between Tomorrow's War and Rampant Stars you can find it on my blog in my sig. Then you can see which one appeals to you more.

Start Grunt is always a classic, but I think you will find it somewhat similar to Tomorrow's War.

Clash on the Fringe is available on the Wargame's Vault and I have heard good buzz about it.
