so my list is mostly bloodbound and id like to add some shooting units but cant think of a good fit.
can any of you recommend some ranged additions that would fit aesthetically?
for example, i was thinking tzeentch acolytes but the magic idea doesnt really fit.
i thought ungors with bows might be fun... good old beastmen always find their way into a chaos army...

is it just me or is ranged really lopsided towards order?

suggestions?

The easiest way is to throw in a few Skullcannons.

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Convert up a monster to have a cannon on/in it? Stegadons and Bastiladons are about the right size. A Slaughterbrute/Mutalith might work, but that might be a little big, but sufficiently Chaosy. Or maybe paint up a Khrone-themed Gargant that is carrying a cannon? I'd play against any of those!

I was considering some chaos dwarves but I'm not too sure how crazy i am about their guns

Automatically Appended Next Post:

You can... And hear me out on this... Get a soul grinder, since you can dedicate it to Khorne.

Also remember that Skaven are also chaos units... so you got clan skryers crazy weapons of doom(TM)

Ungors are always a great option also running skaven since they can be shooty will work Pretty much any of the alliance models that have ranged can fit in with any of the chaos gods. It makes it better for us Chaos players as we were never very shooty. Wish they would bring back the Hell Canon.. our only ranged weapon. Other than that you can't really get anything shooty out of our alliance.

i actually really like ungors a lot but for some reason i'm having a helluva time finding them.
i could buy direct from GW but i can't bear to do it, lol...
i was wondering if the savage orc bows would look right on bloodreavers. the hand is attached but the reavers are pretty beefy.
i wouldnt mind substituting them for ungors.
its funny though that an ungor actually has a better save than a bloodreaver =P

Use juggernauts with heads from the 40k forgefiend kit, get the appropriate base size for skull cannons and bulk the model out with bits & terrain basing.

Probably because they're a 'Direct Only' kit...

You know what I just remembered Marauder Horsemen have javalins and can be marked by Khorne. They also can charge and shoot in the same turn, it also looks good along side the bloodbound, They're pretty much mounted bloodreavers who scout ahead of the group and are given the glory of first blood.

Nope.... they took that away . They have kept Slaves to Darkness pretty much "a charge into battle as fast as you can" army. The only saving grace is our ability to ignore mortal wounds and each warrior is a 2 wound model.

Slaughterpriests
Skull Cannons
Soul Grinder dedicated to Khorne
Bloodthirster of Unfettered Fury
Wrath of Khorne Bloodthirster

Slaughterpriests are your cheapest option as long as you have an open hero slot for them (in matched play that is). 22" threat range of D6 mortal wounds.

Note that soul grinders, bloodthirsters, and to a lesser extent marauder horsemen w/javelins, aren't ranged units. They are melee units with a ranged attack, but most of their point value is sunk into melee performance and they will be comparatively lackluster at range. The soul ginder especially cannot be counted on to do meaningful ranged damage in a consistent manner. For a Khorne player, serious ranged support is more or less limited to skull cannons (unfortunately), though having some of the above in addition can be very helpful.

And of course any Khorne player (save mono-daemon) will have two slaughterpriests from Gore Pilgrims already.

One other thing I've noticed is you seem to get a lot more bang for your buck choosing a unit over say artillery.
The skull cannon is like 160... i can get like 20 ranged infantry for that price.

Sure, but something like 20 Grots with bows won't shoot nearly as well as one skull cannon. The skull cannon can also fight in melee and potentially get extra shooting from it, even. With +1 attack from the bloodsecrator it isn't terrible at getting it either.

I'm in the same boat as the OP, need some shooting in my lists but I hate the look of the skull cannons. Forgeworld has some decent looking artillery pieces for Khorne but the thought of dishing out $65+ bucks for one hurts.

How well do ungors pull their weight compared to a skull cannon? I'm about to breakdown and get the skull cannon formation just so I can stand a chance against those khorne damned stormcast armies, but the idea of having 40 ungor raiders re-rolling 1s and 2s to hit is tempting as well. I don't really see them doing the same damage mathematically however the cannons can with their rending and damage.

i was considering converting some ogre leadbelchers to use as soul cannons.

if i decide to go with ungors im tempted to use bloodreavers armed with bows.
that should be a decent proxy.

so ive decided that im going to convert some ogre leadbelchers.
ive never been a big fan of guns protruding from torsos but the belly plate hole on the ogres seems like a super easy spot to place one.
should i place the gun in the belly or convert the cannons that they are holding into some sort of daemonic cannon?

what do you think?

I would get some forgefiend heads and add armor/greenstuff to replace the ogre head like the cannon was grafted onto the body. It wouldn't be too difficult to do something similar with the guy since there is a gap behind the plate where you could easily lodge the back end of a cannon. Doing a classic replace arms with guns could also work. You may want to look at the Stormfiend kit for bits and inspiration.
