So, I have yet to buy the rule book, and am waiting for July for the new models and the Soviet book. I wanted to buy the following (but don't know the point system or how to build a force) -

5 to 9 t-72s
4 Mi-24s
5 bmps
2 zsus

then when they come out
5 T62s
5 btrs
2 Sams

maybe
brdms, or spandrels, or gaskins, or storms, or gophers

Definitely infantry...

Any guidance?

With what you want, you could do a 57 point T-72 Tank Battalion list.

T-72 Tank Battalion:
1 x HQ T-72
4 x T-72
4 x T-72
4 x BMP2 recon
2 x ZSU-23-4
Red Banner Divisional Support:
4 x Mi24

Well rounded but a bit lightweight on the numbers Warsaw Pact needs to sustain casualties. To get to 85-100 points you'd probably add a Motor Rifle Battalion with more BMP2s and infantry, bulk out your T-72 Companies and add a bit more AA.

As for a Red Thunder list with T-64s and Osa, we're gonna have to wait until the book comes out.

Oz

You need max AA and the BMP Motor Rifle infantry are your killers, just a few tanks to provide distraction

The rules favour Soviet doctrine, which emphasised the MR Divisions as the break through force (3 Inf Regiments and 1 tank regiment)
