I have pictures of this unit in the gallery I wanted to take better photos and lump all of my army togeather.
My mission is to have a fully painted army for 8th edition so I can bounce into my local GW and learn the new meta whilst people admire my models.

It's that simple really feel free to criticise my painting (constructively)

Nobz more nobz I'm thinking about getting another 5 of these with big choppas and running them in a battle wagon, I'm still undecided the big choppas could end up being a bad move for me as combi skorchas are deadly now I suppose I could always proxy then again I play for the narrative and what's more orky than a big choppa?

These guys are a w.i.p planning on getting the block colours done tonight and finish them sunday, if my wife lets me.

Looking good! Yellow is always tough to work with (for me at least) but your coats seem pretty even and opaque. Only criticism might be to add in some chipping / scratches on the armor. Maybe some red tones around the boyz lips and tips of the ears to give that look of transparency where the skin is thinner. I really like the skin tones on your nobs in that last update. Was that intentional or are you going to throw a wash over it?

I know that you mean I may try that on the boys I have got, I've never really thought about the thunder more translucent skin, and the second batch of nobz are simply block painted on top of white primer, I think if you saw them in person you would think other wise you can tell that is exactly what they are, they have had the proper skin treatment I'll load pics of them soon chipped weatherd based and all of the other details, that was just a stage by stage picture I'm going to do that with everything I paint.

Fully painted knobs debating on adding boss polls or not can't see the point if the not leading boys might just green stuff the hole in the back.

Nice work! I love Grukk's green squig. Some of the armour does look a little flat compared to the rest of the model though. I think that's where the edge highlighting comment was directed. The weathering looks great though, and the damage you've added helps with the flat look.

Like i have done with his power klaw, in my mind his shoulder pads are not suposed to be high lighted like that i have not weatherd him becasue the paints so smooth there is atleast 10 coats of extra watery paint on him, but! he is still a ork ill weather him tonight.
currently on watching sponging videos planning on learning that techneaque it looks amazing if done right you can achieve in a couple of minutes what would take hours to do with a brush.

NIce work sir, that's a fine looking ork force. And yeah, isn't medium wonderful?

One suggestion (beyond playing with edge highlights, which you should also do) is to do what in old school painting articles they call black lining. It doesn't actually have to be black, any dark colour will do, but the point is to use areas of very dark shadow to separate different parts of the model. This applies to various armour plates of the same colour as it does transitions between materials, say a shoulder pad and the skin of the arm.

The dark shadow helps the eye pick out the details and generally makes a model look sharper. Some of your figs, the ones with stronger washes, are almost there already. Personally, I do this mostly with a very dark wash applied just to the deep shadow areas with fine detail brush. If you want a slightly cartoony but easy to see example look at any of the early paint jobs on the Confrontation line of miniatures.

He knows that I know and you know that he actually doesn't know the rules at all.

Looking good so far, but need to either drill out those gun barrels or mess around with some black to give the illusion of it.

I assume the warboss was one of the very first painted? As you can see how you're improving with the skin tone over time to the painboy.

I am really not a fan of edge high lighting, apples and oranges there are occasions when one must edge highlight like black metal or tanks, space marine armour and so on, some people like it some don't I'm going to edge high light my next squad to death as your not the first to mention it third in fact, see if I take a fancy to it, because in truth I have not done it since I restarted the hobby.

yes you are correct he was the first model I painted I am starting to look at him now and thinking to my self that guy needs redoing, I mean he's not bad but there's a quantum leap in quality compared with the pain boy.

Very cool paint scheme! I hate yellow (to paint it!) and yours is very good.

Can I ask you where are those heads? From the regular Ork Nobz kit?

There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Regular knobs box the iron jaws do not belong on those particular heads, they are meant to be on the heads with no helmets and bit of sanding and shaping is required.

Quick update on the boyz, id like to add ill never use primer out of a can again, I saw a post some one had praised Wilkinson's own brand primer and it was dirt cheap over the moon I jump at the chance to buy it even debated buying two cans in case they realised how much of a mistake they had made selling it for £3 a can, I picked it up excited shook it and heard the ball bearing rattle inside the can mmmmmm that was the sound of me saving 2 hours of priming, into the basket it went, I scooped my son up with the other hand and jog/walked to the tills skipping like a school child.
I got home and burst through front door child placed on the floor carton of juice in his hand "go see mam" I told him as I ran upstairs into the gaming corner primer in hand, "hello bois"
I sat in my chair the brazing shadow pro gaming chair (this chair will improve your painting power level by over 9000) I looked at the lads their bare grey plastic body's topped with kromlechs finest resin cast German storm trooper ork heads, "your going to be beautiful" I thought to my self shaking the tin of primer smile spread across my face ear to ear time to roll.

I thought the best place to prime my models would be the utility room in the deep Belfast sink the day was hot and I have been told the heat can have adverse effects on the quality of the paint I wet the sink so that the paint would not stick to the sink its self I left the tap running to add humidity to the paint being careful thet the water did not touch the models, I blue tacked all of the models to a raised strip of plastic, a quick glance at the two lines of instructions provided on the side of the tin.
"shake vigorously "
"hold thecan 20cm to 25cm away from the surface"
A quick blast of the can completely covered there fronts, amazed with the instant coverage I quickly spun the boys around and covered there backs, wow so fast, a quick blast across there heads sealed the boys up, fully primed I would let them dry and begin my 8 hour painting stint.
I left the models for about 2 hours and went about making my self some food I thought this would be a long one best fill up for this the sun was glorious, I lit up the BBQ and popped a bottle of stella open steak sausage and burgers it would be, I fixed my family up every one happily eating and drinking commenting on the weather and how much of a brilliant day it was, I on the other hand had the boys in my mind, the weather come second, then it hit me Ill paint out side!

The meal was well received it was time to paint I run upstairs and grabbed my treasure chest (literally a treasure chest full of modelling tools and paint) and the squad of boys I was about to paint, I set the chest up took out the block paints I would be using refreshed my wet pallet new tissue paper, new grease paper the paint was mixed with the medium ill start with the flesh, ere we go!
I picked a random model from the perfectly placed formation of boys, I loaded my brush and went in for the charge aiming directly for the neck.... or at least where the neck was supposed to be!
The primer had filled the recess that separates the neck and his leather armour joined together leaving a very slight transition shocked at the sight I began to examine the rest of the model the eyes filled in mouths practically shut gummed up with this hell liquid I had smothered my precious boys in, £20 I had paid for these heads and now look at them detail covered hidden for all eyes never to see, today was not a good day.

So all in all I wont buy tinned primer again, I have in fact gotten my self an air gun, I thought it was a good idea because I can control the amount of primer going on the the models exactly and I also have a morkanaut and a truck coming I think blending the morkanaut using a brush would be extremely hard and take quite some time so air brush it is, as for the models here is a pic of them in progress I'm applying very very very thin coats trying to preserve the last bits of detail left on the models, primed, blocked, washed.

Finally completed the boys just in time for my morkanaut/truk boys arriving, I've take peoples advice and edge highlighted the leather body armour and straps I went as light as I would dare go I also tried out the sponging techneaque and I'm quite happy with how its turned out there is no amount of brush work could replicate it or at least not by me (see the shoulder pads).

give me some feed back good or bad and I promise it will show up in the next pictures I'm all about improving my skills and techniques.
