D-scythe WG are hosing down some power armor:

The question comes up:
When using a template, you cover the maximum models. Hilda argues that since the WG on the top (12 o'clock), can't touch more than one SM without touching a WG (like pictured below, which is illegal), that far left WG doesn't get a shot.

Because it is 'not the maximum number of models' according to template rules.

Gertrude argues that the maximum enemies that 12 o'clock WG can hit is one, so it scores one Hit, and the other WG score 3 or 4 each as the green template shows.

Hilda's argument, again, is that since the maximum number of models can't be hit, 12 o'clock WG is out of luck.

Hilda or Gertrude?

TEMPLATE WEAPONS
"Instead of rolling To Hit, simply place the template so that its narrow end is touching the base of the firing model and the rest of the template covers as many models
in the target unit as possible, without touching any other friendly models..."

Each firing MODEL covers as many as possible WITHOUT touching any other friendly models.
Making "without" a caveat to the firing model.

The template rules are applied on a per "firing model" basis, not the most that the "unit" can hit.

So Hilda would be incorrect.

The rule is:
Instead of rolling To Hit, simply place the template so that its narrow end is touching the base of the firing model and the rest of the template covers as many models in the target unit as possible, without touching any other friendly models (including other models from the firing model’s unit).

Gertrude is correct.

The only thing that would prevent 12o'c from shooting is if its template could not hit the target unit without also also hitting a friendly model.

The maximum number of models that 12o'clock can template without going over a friendly is 1. Therefore he shoots 1.

The maximum number of models that 5 o'clock can shoot is 0 because you measure from the gun and his gun is foolishly behind 3 o'clock

While 3 o'click can template 4 because that is his maximum.

Add all the templateing models with the same time together and role at the same time

Note this situation is very rare a's most players point their guns at the enemy. However it does occur occasionally in deeps trike where you have to maintain the facing of the models and scattering can make you face the wrong way

This is not correct for non-vehicle models. Non-vehicle models measure line of sight from any part of the body of the firer, and range is measured from the firer's base. More specific to this scenario though, the Template rules tell you to "place the template so that its narrow end is touching the base of the firing model" and that "models fully or partially under the template are hit." There is no requirement for a non-vehicle model to be facing its target.

You are incorrect U02da4.

As mentioned by shine, only vehicles measure from the barrel.
