What would be the best list to use with my squats?
IG and genestealer cults seem a bit to squishy. SM scouts perhaps a bit to tough. Maybe Skitari?

If you were facing squats which list would you feel is the most appropriate?

Guard work fine for squats

Otherwise if you want less models use Scouts

I would go with Skitarii, the Squats are suppose to be tech masters if I remember.

either skitarii or scouts. Squats are supposed to be though so that would exclude cult and guard

Probably go with scouts for the basic gunline infantry, allowing a squad access to a heavy bolter or missile launcher equivalent, and then you could use elite units as specialist space marine squads, such as devastators and dreadnoughts. Alternatively you could ally in some guard to provide your base line infantry and tanks, and then have an allied detachment of 'counts-as' marines for elite units.

Scouts are too fast, IMO. Cadians, Skitarri or Tau, I'd say. Or Sisters of Battle if you want to field hearthguard.
