Hello!

With all the hype around the new edition of 40k I thought it might be a good time to start putting an army together. I played fantasy for a long time but stopped towards the end of 8th and have been playing some smaller skirmish size games since then. I miss army size games though, and really like the 40k universe so want to give it a go... I'm not quite sure what army to go with though... I keep changing my mind between three:

Orks - These were my fantasy army, and I love the ramshackle vehicles, but I don't love the look of some of the models compared to newer ones and I've painted a lot of greenskins in my life already.

Chaos - I've always fancied a Nurgle themed force and I've seen some photos of cool looking Deathguard which I'm assuming will be out soon, so this is probably what I'm leaning towards. The basic marines seem a bit outdated, but the raptors are awesome and feel like there's some good scope for modelling/conversions.

Tau - There's no one thing I like about Tau, but they just look really cool as an assembled army. I probably wouldn't want to paint loads of big battlesuits though, which seems to be the main way of playing them.

Any suggestions/advice appreciated!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to the forum!

Death Guard is fun indeed, especially regarding conversion possibilities. Furthermore, Death Guard will be included in the new edition 40K box, so you would get some units together with the rules (and you could sell the Space Marines). You can check my Death Guard in my gallery for inspiration.

Orks are fun and there are a lot of 3rd party manufacturers of Ork figures (check out Kromlech (Bits of War)), should you dislike GW's ones. I made a Grots (counts as Orks) army and you can also saee that in the gallery or following the link.

I never liked Tau, or T'au as they will be called soon.

Tl;Dr I would go for death Guard as they come in the starter box and they are not Orks which you painted for a long time
