So I just got home from my first tourney for X-wing, met some really great players, got some cool promo cards (a guy just gave me a Vet Instincts and Academy Tie cards), had a lot of fun. I ran my dual Firespray list, nothing killer but enough that I came close on a few games. I think the Firespray can be a good ship, but it honestly needs just a little boost - it really needs an x7 style title or something.
I did have some great moments though - nothing like dropping an ion bomb on two enemy ships facing each other so they bump and then bump again the next turn. And it was fun to play Kath with Outmaneuver just so I could hold up the card and say "you've been outmaneuvered".
I think the big issue is action economy, I faced a Rey/Finn Falcon that was just nuts with how much dice modification was going on. I don't think I can really get something like that going but I had a thought on replacing 1 Firespray with Dengar. I don't want to run the same old Attani list so I'm going to be trying this next time I go to the shop:
Kath Scarlet
Veteran Instincts
Ion Bombs
Operations Specialist
Glitterstim
Ship Total: 46
Dengar — JumpMaster 5000
A Score to Settle
K4 Security Droid
Unhinged Astromech
Inertial Dampeners
Countermeasures
Punishing One
Ship Total: 53
With Dengar I'm following the old adage inscribed on claymore mines: Front Towards Enemy. I've seen Quickdraw builds with A Score to Settle and I'm hoping for a similar sort of thing: that the ship with A Price to Pay will be discouraged by the chance of return fire.
I'm really not sure about the intertial dampeners and countermeasures, I've had countermeasures work ok, but I could just trade it in for hull upgrade or something else

I am not really a fan of countermeasures but ID on Dengar is awesome but I generally prefer to 'Stim. I am unsure of your Kath build, it seems to be trying to do too many things, whats your rationale?
I ran a list with the same two ships which went quite well;
Kath Scarlet (Scum) — Firespray-31 38
Veteran Instincts 1
Tail Gunner 2
Glitterstim 2
Engine Upgrade 4
Ship Total: 47
Dengar — JumpMaster 5000 33
Wired 1
Zuckuss 1
R5-P8 3
Glitterstim 2
Punishing One 12
Ship Total: 52
But that was before Zuckuss got nerfed, now I would probably change the EPT to Trickshot (I am not sure on A Score to Settle) and swap Zuckuss out for K4.
Kath in this list really leverages her ability with Tail Gunner as you roll four or five red dice and the oppo looses a green whilst the boost lets you set up the shot (or possibly dodge arc).

You're right, I shouldn't be trying to make my list something it's not. I should emphasize the strong suits
Tail gunner did serve me well today so I think I will stick with that. With that spare point and dropping Countermeasures I can get her an engine upgrade.

Despite being a bit over-costed I think Countermeasures is worth considering if you expect to face lots of other Jumpmaster Torpedo lists, removing a TL and getting an extra green could blunt alpha's and it's kind of handy against other Dengars for hopefully nudging ahead in the damage race

True that. If only it removed all Target Locks.
