Hello fellow Dakkanauts, given that the 2017 Store Championship season has just begun and I've looking to finally get in on the fun and compete in one in about a months time.
I was wondering if anyone would be able to critique the list I'm currently planning on using?

INQ/VESSERY/DEATHFIRE

99 points

PILOTS

"Deathfire" [Extra Munitions, Homing Missiles, Cluster Mines, Long Range Scanners] (28)

The Inquisitor [Push the Limit, TIE/v1, Autothrusters] (31)

Colonel Vessery [Ion Cannon, Veteran Instincts, TIE/D, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II] (40)

I must admit I'm not the most comfortable with flying these ships - I've got way more practice with Interceptors, TIE Fighters and Phantoms - however I wanted a list that didn't completely dissolve if my opponent has ways of piling on multiple stress tokens, though admittedly The Inquisitor will go pop and Deathfire will be hampered a bit.

If anyone is interested the initial list I came up with using the ships I'm most familiar is below. I've had decent success with it and variations of it recently, but I've also never faced any stress lists with it:
Spoiler:
MODIFIED WHISPERING ACE
Whisper, Soontir Fel, "Epsilon Ace"

98 points

PILOTS

Soontir Fel [Royal Guard TIE, Push the Limit, Autothrusters, Stealth Device] (35)

“Whisper” [Kylo Ren, Fire-Control System, Veteran Instincts, Advanced Cloaking Device] (42)

“Epsilon Ace” [Comm Relay, Twin Ion Engine Mk. II] (21)

Like everything, this isn't set in stone at all and I'm open to scrapping the list completely and replacing it with something else - as long as I have the ships and cards to field it of course.

All I can say is, if you're good at flying Soontir Fel, good for you. I can't. Same as Fenn. I just don't get it.

I think it's just because I've flown interceptors on and off since I first started playing almost 2 years ago now. Lots of practice. I'd hardly call myself anymore than decent at flying them though .

I look forward to hearing how you do in practice as well as at the store tournament.

On the whole, I like the list (probably not surprising because I'm working up a Quickdraw/ Vessery x7/Deathfire list myself). A few thoughts:

I'd be a bit inclined to drop the ion cannon for a tractor beam Vessery and use the points (and the one for the bid) for proton rockets for the inquisitor. That gives some deterrent to people trying to close with the TAP and the potential to boost the shots of both other ships if the tractor hits (even if your opponents just spend tokems to avoid it, which happened a lot when I ran "scorpion Vessery" at a regional side event... I didn't get a lot of hits with the beam).

I'm also agnostic about LRS & homing missiles vs proton torps & chips. I've had a really hard time getting a lock on anything after the first pass with LRS, especially if you want to keep Deathfire in close for bombing. But I've (previously) been doing it with a gamma vet & deadeye.

Broadly, your list has a lot to recommend it. A reasonably nasty choice for target priority (kill Vessery or the bomber first) and a pretty good alpha strike potential. But you're going to struggle, I think, with ps9+ (FennGar, Dengar Tel, Rey w/adapt or VI, ETC).

One of my takeaways from watching Worlds is that high ps lists are/could be more prevalent. But go for it and let us know how it turns out.

If I had the Proton Rockets card I'd be tempted to try them out on the Inquisitor instead, but unfortunately I don't. Maybe next time lol.

I'll see how my practice games go with Homing + LRS. If I have similar trouble I'll probably switch to ProtonTorps + Chips like you said.

We'll see how I fare against Aces. Against Small Ship Aces - if I'm able to Ion them with Vessery - I'll probably be able to deal with them, however Large Ships Aces will definitely be a problem... especially manoeuvrable ones like Dengar and Rey like you mentioned.

Unfortunately there's not much I can really change with my list and the cards I have available that will make my life any easier against Aces, I'll just have to fly like a guy who wants to be a champion and hope my dice are hot.

Thanks for the breakdown and ideas!

Also just to confirm, with TIE/D I can target a different ship with the Primary Weapon, right?

Yes, the cannon and primary can shoot at different targets
