So as the name might suggest, I'm thinking about running a squad of deathwatch vets all with stalker bolters but I need to know their viability, I'm thinking about running them as monster hunters due to strength X and then after that maybe hq hunters, but staying in the backline for sure
so I want to know your guys advice tactics and ideas for how to run these guys

once 8th edition rolls around, snipers could be really important to an army. stalker bolters could be pretty useful for sniping down characters

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Stalker Bolters are now just long range Boltguns. They do not have any of the abilities that Sniper weapons possess. I am very pissed.

Deathwatch was not an upper tier army from the start, their only good stuff was their shinning weapons like Stalker Boltgun and Frag Cannon, and now GW just nerfed these two extremely hard to make Deathwatch trash tier.

Yup. And it isn't like Deathwatch get Special Issue Boltguns base. They pay a huge opportunity cost to get inferior things to Sternguard. I am probably just going to play my Deathwatch as Ultramarines using the Vanguard Detachment using a ton of Sternguard, Vanguard Veterans, and Terminators.

What did they do to the Frag Cannons?

I'm on a podcast about (video) game design:

Nothing really. It looks pretty much the same as it used it.

IIRC, they take away the rending equivalent rule from Frag Cannon, now the disperse mode is just an inferior Heavy Flamer against everything except T3 guys.

How is it an inferior heavy flamer? They're exactly the same but it's S6 instead of S5.

Sorry, maybe "inferior" is not a fair claim. I was pissed by the fact that it flatout has no AP no "Ignore cover" in this edition, where now anything T4+ get a very good chance survive it by stand in terrain.

What? The Frag Cannon is 2d6 automatic hits, Str 6, AP -1. It is better than the Heavy Flamer in literally all but one way (it has the same AP). What were you expecting? It will evaporate hordes and it still wrecks vehicles. That Termagaunt horde? It takes away six of them per turn. And if they try to charge you, six more. And you can run four of them! Are you really unhappy with the ability of the Deathwatch to wipe out a horde per turn of shooting? Because they can also stand a chance of blowing up a big bug or vehicle if there aren't any hordes around. With the same weapon!
