I recently posted a Chaos list for a friendly tournament that is coming up soon. Now I want to post another possible list for that same tournament, this one being Tau Farsight Enclaves. To reiterate, the rules for list building are as follows: No Lords of War, no special characters, no Forge World, no formations or Decurion-style detachments (other detachments such as Nemesis Strike Force, Harlequin Masque, Ravenwing Strike Force, etc. are okay). Only one ally may be taken in an Allied Detachment for this tournament (I don't intend to ally). My list is as follows:
Combined Arms Detachment (Tau Farsight Enclaves):
HQ:
Commander: 2x Missile Pod, Drone Controller, Target Lock, Iridium Battlesuit, 2x Marker Drone
Elites:
XV104 Riptide: Heavy Burst Cannon, TL Smart Missile System, Early Warning Override, Stim Injector, Earth Caste Pilot Array, Bonding Knife Ritual
XV95 Ghostkeel: Cyclic Ion Raker, TL Fusion Blaster, Early Warning Override, Counterfire Defense System, Bonding Knife Ritual
Troops:
XV8 Crisis Team: 1 suit, 2x Fusion Blaster, Bonding Knife Ritual
XV8 Crisis Team: 2 suits, each with 2x Burst Cannon and Advanced Targeting System, Bonding Knife Ritual
XV8 Crisis Team: 3 suits, each with 2x Plasma Rifle and Advanced Targeting System, Bonding Knife Ritual
Fast Attack:
Drones: 6x Marker Drone
Pathfinder Team: 5 men, Bonding Knife Ritual
TX4 Piranha: 1 model, Fusion Blaster
Heavy Support:
TX78 Sky Ray: 1 model, TL Smart Missile System, Disruption Pod
XV88 Broadside Team: 2 suits, each with TL High Yield Missile Pod, TL Smart Missile System, Early Warning Override, Bonding Knife Ritual
XV88 Broadside Team: 2 suits, each with TL High Yield Missile Pod, TL Smart Missile System, Early Warning Override, Bonding Knife Ritual
Total 1500 points exactly
Bonding Knife Rituals are a required tax for Farsight Enclaves (before anyone asks...). My concern with this list is that it is too strong for this casual tournament and will be vetoed (players have to submit their lists for review a week in advance). I hope not, as it's not like I'm trying to run 3 Riptides or something crazy like that. Is this list really strong?

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

This list will not be veto'd

I played an 1850 tournament recently with a riptide wing and stormsurge amongst other tau goodies and got crushed.

This is fair and might actually be a little on the weaker side in my opinion, or at least for my local store.

Oh, believe me. I could make a much nastier list than this. The thing is, this is supposed to be a fairly casual event aimed at less competitive players. Hence the restrictions like no Lords of War, etc. That is why I'm concerned about having to tone it down. The prizes for the event are supposed to be fairly significant, though, so I want something I can win with. I figured this list might be a good compromise between totally casual and WAAC.

Your meta sounds a lot like mine. Many of the local players in my area play in the big tournaments like Adepticon and the ATC, and they use lists like you will see there in our local ITC events. So it's usually very cutthroat, and I struggle to keep up. The TO for this upcoming event is trying to get away from that, and have a more relaxed day of gaming without all the cutthroat lists just hogging the top tables.
