Subject: Square Bases?

Drop Trooper with Demo Charge

Please forgive my ignorance but I haven't played much since 5th. I thought I heard something about the game changing to square bases. Is that factual? Are the round bases still legal? Any info would be appreciated.

It was a joke from one of the early 8th ed promo videos from GW. IIRC, the same one where they were 'testing' dropping Deep Strikers onto the table from 6 feet up...
So, no... it's not actually a thing.

No, they're not going to square bases.
Yes, they existed in the past when the 40mm square base was "the" large creature base for most models in the mid-late 1990's. Avatars, dreadnoughts, great daemons, war walkers, etc. all came with this base.

Up until 4th edition, all daemons were sold in WHFB packaging, with square bases. From 4th edition onwards they started selling them with both.
