Hey all

With GW appearing to support fluffy armies with narrative play and power levels, I thought why not have people post what a typical force of their army would look like and some of the back story behind their armies. Not looking for load outs (unless its important for the background of their army), just the units you would expect to see in the force.

For my Imperial Guard the extensive background is linked in my signature but will give you a brief overview of each Hive.

Hive Gregvan This is the ruling Hive of my world and as such spends a little more on its troops than other Hives, without being excessive- The Weapons of Choice are Heavy Bolters and Plasma Guns.

A typical Shift (platoon) would be:
A Stubjack Crew(Platoon Command Squad)
5 Gangs (Infantry Squads) Being part of Hive Gregvan these gangs are supplied with both Heavy and Special Weapons
5 Heavy Teams (Heavy Weapons Squads)
3 Scummer Teams (Special Weapons Teams)
Juves (conscripts)
Enough Chimeras for the entire Platoon.

A Sector (Company) would consist of a Guild Boss and a team of Guild Enforcers (Company Command Squad) in a chimera and 6 Shifts

Hive Ranrence is an overcrowded Hive, having a much larger population than other Hives, yet still similar in physical size. It is one of the richest Hives, however, that wealth is clearly located with the Spyre Nobles, and as such has a high enlistment rate for the Imperial Guard (at least in the Guard you are guaranteed 3 meals a day and probably slightly more living space than in the Hive. The regular troops that you will see are equipped with the basics whilst any spyre nobles you happen to encounter are likely to be some of the best equipped troops you are likely to encounter. The Standard Issue special and heavy weapons are Long Las and Heavy Bolter, and are only issued to specialist teams.

A typical shift would be:
2 Stubjack Crews
10 Gangs
10 Heavy Teams
6 Scummer Teams
an unusually large number of juves

A Sector would have a Guild Boss with a team of enforcers and 6 Shifts

I'll keep adding in further posts, but would be curious as to what you typical force would look like.

From your description here I'm imagining the Guard as teamster style union workers, working in shifts and fretting over their benefits

Just don't ask where the rations and ammo keep disappearing to or expect anything to happen in a timely fashion, or you'll end up having some kind of "accident"!

Hive Votlill Recently suffered from a major Hive Collapse taking out most of Hive City and effectively crushing the Underhive. This has drastically reduced the population of the Hive. It has however provided the Hive with large amounts of materials that can be mined/salvaged and reused. This has led to a large number of the population becoming experts in explosives. This has resulted in the weapons of choice being mortars and grenade launchers, and all units carry grenades.

A typical shift would be:
1 Stubjack Crew
2 Gangs
5 Heavy Teams
3 Scummer Teams

A sector would consist of a Guild Boss, his Enforcers and 6 Shifts.

Lol yea "are we going to get full shares?"

I like to think my IG are on a volcanic/promethium heavy planet purely guarding resources with sisters of battle here and there guarding the temples and clergy left from missionary style colonization.

General morale being - why do we have to risk our lives for this rock from the guard and disgust from the sisters at lack of enthusiasm

Given that the structure they have used for their regiments is based on how manufactorums work, you aren't far wrong. you can see the full fluff in the link in my signature.

And a heavy trade in bionics for the guard due to getting 'to handsy' with the sisters

Yep, they get full shares in the blood and death.
