Hello Dakka!

I have a bunch of unpainted ork models and am not sure which ork clan I should paint them up as. I bought over 150 boys for cheap that are painted up as deathskulls but am not sure if I should continue with the same paint scheme or go with another ork clan (leaning towards bad moon, love that yellow!) I am torn between both color schemes as I really do like them both and wanted to get some input from fellow ork/non-ork players!

Well you could do it based on units. Bad moons typically favor ranged combat, so tankbustas, shoots boys, flash gits. Do what you like. There's no indication yet that the different clans will have different rules, so it's really just a paint job

Paint all of em. It's the best, the Ork tribes offer you every possible color scheme and they all look awesome. Greenskinz are da best for a reason. Ancraig has a great idea, I do the same thing with my 10k pts of Orks. Lootas, my dakka jet and one of my battle wagons are deathskulls. Boys are split between Goff, Blood Axes (60% of my army is Blood Axe, love camo boyz), Deathskulls and Bad Moons so on and so forth down the line.

I like Orks with flashy color schemes, so I personally wouldn't get too much enjoyment out of Snakebites (mainly brown) or Goffs (mainly black/white). However, the colors don't have to match the typical colors for a given clan. My Orks lore/strategy-wise are Deathskulls and Blood Axes, but my color scheme is lots of red and yellow.

You make a good point. My buddy had a big Ork army during 3rd/4th and he painted all of their skin purple with green uniforms and said they were on a hulk that flung through the warp and came out the other end all jacked up. Was a fun army to play against.

You could always do your own scheme. I personally like blue and yellow. There is a great conversion artist (blanking on his name) that does orange / teal and it looks awesome.

Maybe this is just my vintage, but I like a tribe with a mix of clans. It really speaks to me, you know? Tells me this is a Warboss that really knows how to get the orks behind him; united against a common enemy or for a common purpose.

Blue and yellow look nice together, so Bad Moons and Deathskulls could work well together visually.

I think fluffwise they partner up well too. The Deathskulls steal things and the Badmoons buy up the goods.

One idea I was toying with was starting a small ork force lead by a Goff Big Mek. Why Goff? Because running a mek shop is serious business!

The majority of the troops would be Deathskulls. The mek, being a Goff, is efficiency orientated and Deathskulls make the best 'acquisitions team'.

On the flip side, the orks buying all the Mek's tech (mega armour, snazzguns and so on) would be Badmoons, because they have the teef to make 'good clients'.

Perhaps you could find a similar narrative thread to string together your clans?

I prefer the same color scheme for the entire army to be honest, but you can play whatever ork horde you want, a single clan or a waaagh that gathered different clans (even rival ones!), that's entirely up to you.

There is nothing funnier than orks wearing camo trousers and high visibility vests, especially when walking in ranks. I only did that for one unit and they were the ones out in front. Generally I go by their equipment for the clans - or though I did do some orks with blue warpaint but on red and yellow bikes - I also had a unit of foot sloggers wearing red and yellow. You can guess who just had their bikes stolen

Deathskulls, it's probably one of the coolest looking ork clans to both theme build and paint, they really stand out with that blue in a good way. The other clans can be cool but I've yet to see GW focus on DS it's always goffs bm or es.

I like Evil Sunz personally. The red forms a striking contrast with the green skin and rusty metal work without being quite as bright on the eyes as Bad Moon yellow. Plus the red can vary from bright primary red to deep crimson depending on your taste.

Yeah, I think my only reservation about painting deathskulls is the killa kans, deff dreads, and naughts. For some reason, I think blue does not look good on the walkers and think yellow is the way to go. Also with the battle wagons so not sure if I will paint them blue or switch them to BM when I get around to painting them.

You may potentially have a point on the walkers, but I have seen a good looking blue BW and Dakkajet on display at my FLGS. I'll try to snap some quick pictures next time I'm there so you can judge for yourself.

I'm working on Blood Axes with red and orange striped camo. So my vote is going to be the sneak gits over the loud gits.

That said if you have a favorite color you could use that to help aim your choices.
