Hey guys,

A random thought occurred to me. 8 is an important number in Warhammer. There are 8 mortal realms, 8 winds of magic, and 8 incarnates (though Gork & Mork and Tyrion & Teclis count as one respectively).

Then I got to thinking. 8 is a sacred number for chaos as well. It's symbol is an eight pointed star, symbolizing going out in all directions. It is also referred to as the Octet or the eightfold path. This got me thinking... could we be getting some more Chaos gods?

Age of Sigmar has already done the unthinkable. It added The Great Horned Rat as the 5th chaos god. It's no longer just the big 4. There is nothing to prevent them from adding 3 more chaos gods to the mix. Why would they do this? To create balance and rivalries with the incarnates. Plus it's an opportunity to sell more big centerpiece models.

Already there seem's to be some rivalries going.

Sigmar, the Incarnate of the winds of Heaven, and ruler of Azyr. His biggest rivalry right now seems to be with Khorne. The image of a Stormcast fighting a Blood Warrior is the Iconic image of Age of Sigmar.

Alerielle, incarnate of the winds of Life, and ruler of Ghyran. She seems to have the bulk of Papa Nurgles attention, and for good reason!

Tyrion & Teclis, dual incarnates of Light, and rulers of Hysh. They are all about Slaanesh. I wouldn't count Slaanesh out yet. I have a feeling that he is going to be coming back in a big way once they are done with the incoming Nurgle releases in both AoS and 40k.

Now you will have to excuse me. I haven't had the opportunity to read the fluff from the disciples of Tzeentch book yet, so I haven't seen what realm he has been devoting his time to, and what Incarnate he has been messing with.

Like wise, they have barely touched Skaven so far either. So the Great Horned Rat is up for grabs as well. My vote would be Chammon and Grungni to stoke up the classic Dwarf vs Ratmen rivalry.

So what other chaos gods could there be? There were some old references in older fluff, and Malal has an unexplainable fan base. However I was thinking about some new blood. My thoughts?

Morghur ascended to chaos god of mutation and corruption. Morghur was already an immortal vessel for the chaos gods, mutating everything around him. He was Alerielle's biggest rival before she ascended. So with Chaos's final victory in the old world, Morghur could have ascended and became the god for Beastmen and chaos beasts. His proposed rival? Gorkamorka, as he will be attempting to take over Ghur the realm of beasts. He would be corrupting and mutating the beast of the realm. Bonesplitterz in particular would be up in arms, as he would be defiling the spirit of their god.

Next potential God? This one is kind of out there, but how about Setra? He was a Chaos champion at the end, but then turned on them. It is unclear what happened to him. I can see him eventually coming back on either side. If he comes back on the side of Chaos, he could become a new chaos god. The god of the damned and tormented souls. I can see him as a real thorn in Nagash's side. Corrupting and stealing souls for chaos.

That leaves one slot open. Hashut is a possibility, as he is the diety of the chaos dwarves, but I would actually lump them under Morghur fluff wise.

What are your thoughts on it?

I would like to see them do something with Hashut. But the reasons you listed for 8 showing up are all directly related; it's just one concept based on 8 winds of magic. The incarnates are each based on a wind of magic, as are the mortal realms. The origin of the 8-pointed star symbol was that in WHFB the eight winds of magic (each arrow) came forth from the north pole of the world, where reality merged with the warp and was accordingly the source of chaos invasions.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I actually came to pretty much the same conclusion, so my Chaos forces are part of a cult calling itself the Legion of Rusted Chains who believe in eight gods. They actually believe Archaon is the God of Destruction, so to them, their are only two remaining to be found: The God of Beasts (referred to as the Cloven One, likely a reincarnation of either Morghur or Khazrak) and the God of Entropy (The Silent God, an incarnation of Settra. His priests sew their mouths shut). Each god is destined (according to the Legion) to reclaim one of the Mortal Realms and fold it back into the plain of Chaos, thus breaking the "chains" of slavery to the Incarnates. My list of gods to realms is only slightly different to yours:

Khorne - Aqshy
Tzeentch - Hysh
Nurgle - Ghyran
Slaanesh - Ulgu
The Great Horned Rat - Chamon
Archaon - Azyr
The Cloven One - Ghur
The Silent God - Shyish

Could be misremembering but I thought Tzeentch was all about the Realm of metal in the original Gatewars books, I thought it was his settlements that had Gal Maraz and the mercurial shifting nature of the realm of metal suited his personality.

Soon his foes would learn that the only thing more dangerous than a savage three hundred pound brute is a savage three hundred pound brute with a plan - Ork Codex

He was, but The Great Horned Rat makes more sense for the plane of Metal to me. (Plus, since when does Tzeentch show his hand?)

Cool. Glad to know others were thinking along the same lines. I almost included Archaon as a candidate myself, but figured that they would keep him as their most powerful mortal agent. It will be interesting to see if anything comes
Of these theories.

Tzeench is over in Chamon because he herd the cheese fields over there were delicious...

Which is why the Disciples are so overpowered right now...

There always were multiple gods... Shalya, Morr, Malal and so on. No reason they or minor Chaos powers wouldn't still have cults in the realms. Also, Nagash is god over Shyish?
