Has anyone else played the Battletech Beta? I got my code and tries it out this past weekend and I have to say that I really like it. I just wish there were plans to expand the game to a company on company level of game rather than just lance on lance. I'm really looking forward to the final version.

I'm not prejudiced, I hate everyone equally

Played it over the weekend - quite good fun.

I am hoping that not all Pilots get skills from the get go as I'd like that to be something that you build up to......

Played it, enjoying it, looking forwards to the finished product as its a little rough around the edges with the skirmish AI being not great. Beta's going to be a lot more fun once PvP opens up as then we can see how well the game rules survive contact with humans on both side using them.

I really like it. The AI seems to play 'dirty' a lot, with head shots & blowing legs off but it's fun.

I suppose this is all a bit unclear.

Battletech the NEW video game from Hare Brained Schemes that started life as a Kickstarter and is getting near the end (release may go into early 2018).

As a side-note, Harmony Gold is again going after those involved with Battletech for Robotech/Macross stomping robot infringement here:

Another thing that got a few knickers in a knot was that HBS decided they wanted to use Paradox Interactive as their publisher.

Anyway, yes the game has made excellent progress and I have access to beta but would rather be surprised so I must thank all those here playing the beta and giving feedback.

It has been a long time since the last time we saw this kind of game:
"Mech Commander2" (2001 release, 2006 source code released "kinda").

I feel terribly old, I could swear it was not that long ago.

Anyway, you will be in charge of a mercenary group and go on various missions and have a home base drop ship base you get to mess around with. (We have X-com to thank for this?)
Pilots I hear now each have 2 special ability slots to make your own special mechs as you duke it out with the enemy. This may really be upsetting as head-shots happen.

Anyway, graphics look good and I hear shooting and melee all works and has a satisfying "crunch" to it.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing it go to release soon.

Planning to try this out eventually. My favorite battletech video game was Mech Assault for the original Xbox way back when. I think it was one of the first xbox live games.

On moon miranda.

Saw a bit of it at Gencon, reminded me a much updated and visually revamped Mech Commander 2, I'll be interested to get to play the beta.

The beta looks and plays excellent. I'm just really hoping that the campaign portions around the game are good. It will really take the game to a new level for me if I am rewarded for taking a mechs head out by being able to salavage the rest of it.

I played MC2 heavily back in the day and enjoyed the hell out of it, even if the competitive scene did turn into a jump jet equipped Timber Wolf fest near the end.

there is a closed beta now for backers but I wouldn't recommend it. I think the gameplay is rock solid but so much hasn't been implemented. The mech lab isn't out yet, the campaign isn't out. It's basically paying $60 for a very technically good but bare bones skirmish game. I think it'll be excellent come full release given what the developer has done in the past but right now it just isn't worth getting in on unless you absolutely must.

The official release last I heard was pushed into early 2018 by popular demand, which isn't to say the beta is bad, but the devs and the players thus far seem to all be on board with the "make it right and release it right" bandwagon.

It's still being advertised as 2017, and they just were at Gamescom, showing off some of the newer gameplay features*, so you'd think it would have come up.

*mostly they reworked evasion and the morale bonus (instead of win more for winning, it's now a bonus for getting mauled, to help claw your way back)
