We played maelstorm. Orks got 1-st turn. The opponent placed all his basilisks closer to the front to sit on points, all comsquads in deepstrike reserves and commanders behind basilisks. Orks put big guns on points, boyz and boss in the middle and stormboyz on both flanks. Kommandoes went in reserves.

1 - Orks.
Left flank stormboyz rolled high on advance and decided to risk and rush the basilisks. Boyz moved forward, wierdboy jumped a 30-strong squad in the middle of the map 9' away from basilisks. He periled and suffered 2 mortal wounds. Shooting kills 3 HWTs. Both squads - shootaboyz and stormboyz - make the charge thanks to 'ere we go. Boyz lost like 4 or 5 to overwatch and stormboyz lost 2 to overwatch and 2 to full throttle. Boyz dealt 5 wounds to a basilisk and tied up another one. Stormboyz dealt a couple wounds and tied another one.

1 - IG.
Scions arrived. All tied up basilisks fell back. Scions and 2 basilisks killed around 20 shootaboyz and all the stormboyz that have made a charge previously. Scion comsquads are dead killy for the points with undercosted plasmas and 9 ppm 3+ bs dudes with deepstrike. And you can easilly spam them. Probably best suicide drop in the game. They emidiately made their points back. And that's just from killing ork boyz.

2 - Orks.
Stormboyz and boss on the right flank moved towards the commander, 2 scion squads and a basilisk. Remaining shootaboyz on the front moved towards basilisks, other shootaboyz moved towards another 2 squads of scions. Wierdboy teleported a 10-man shoota squad close to scions that have just wiped stormboyz. Kommandoes arrive close to this same scions. Shooting kills half of the scions - kannons are ineffective again, however shootas, sluggas and nades together with a kombi-skorcha and a dakkagun do the job. Stormboyz multicharge a commander and 2 basilisks taking a couple casualties. Boss charges 4 remaining plasma scions taking 4 wounds from overwatch. 2x10 Shootaboyz make it to remaining scions on the left flank and wittled down shootaboyz charge a basilisk but suffer 3 casualties to overwatch. Boss manages to kill 3 scions - 4-th runs away, stormboyz kill his Warlord and put a couple wounds on those basilisks. 20 shootaboyz kill a bunch of scions but one remains. Other shootaboyz put a couple of wounds on a basilisk and pile in to another one.

2 - IG.
All tied up basilisks fall back...forward. Scion falls back on a point. Shooting from the rest of untied basilisks kills 10 shootaboyz on the left flank and puts a bunch of wounds on wittled down shootaboyz - leaving a nob and 2 boyz. He than decides to charge them with 2 basilisks inflicting another 3 wounds. Nob swings his bigchoppa and deals 2 wounds to a basilisk. He's got 1 wound remaining and he needs a 1 to not run away. He gets a 1.

3 - Orks.
Boyz move around to get charges off. Smite puts a mortal wound on a basilisk, kannons miss everything once again but the rest of the shooting kills off a last scion and deals a couple of wounds here and there. Stormboyz charge 2 basilisks and take 6 casualties from overwatch. But together with Boss and a wierdboy they kill a basilisk, funilly enough, finishing it's 2 wounds off with an attack squig. Stormboyz are still engaged with another basilisk - they deal a couple wounds to it. All the remaining shootaboyz, a lone heroic nob that's holding off 2 basilisks and kommandoes charge all the stuff around and end up killing one basilisk and wounding the rest.

3 - IG. Everything falls back...forward once again. He eventually gets linebraker with a basilisk - sounds insane, i know. Shoots and kills some stuff.

4 - Orks. We suffer a bunch of casualties from overwatch but manage to finish off all the basilisks. Well, other than the one that's performed a tactical retreat behind enemy lines.

4 - IG. Commander charges stormboyz in the name of the empra, kills one and heroically dies to a power klaw. The basilisk shoots the enemy from behind enemy lines.

We decide to finish the game here. Orks are ahead on maelstorm and the basilisk wouldn't have enough time to kill everything off.

Close victory to orks!

It seems like the scions are living up to their feared reputation, but although they got their points back (and then some) it didn't seem like they were enough to overcome the orks combat shenanigans.

What percentage of the time were the basilisks able to fire? It seems like you concentrated (wisely) on tying them up.

This would be a good game to see pictures. You seem to have gotten in combat a lot...more than I would expect from footsloggers.

Yeah, scion com squads are nuts. So damn killy for 16 pts and don't need transports. I don't know if there's anything they can not pay off against. Well, maybe conscripts with a comissar or grots with a runtherd. If he had more points in comsquads instead of basilisks it's likely i wouldn't be able to recover after the first turn.

I was lucky with charges and tied up basilisks early on so they didn't shoot too often. However, his overwatch was hot - he basically killed 1-3 boyz with every basilisk on overwatch. If i could change anything in my strategy, i'd not spread forces and try to stay coser to a warboss so that i wouldsn't loose >10 boyz to ld.

I'll try to get some pictures for the upcoming game. And yep, on one hand i was lucky with charge rolls 1-st turn which triggered the never-ending tarpit of his basilisks. On the other hand, i lost a lot of boyz to ld tests cause they ended up being too far away from boss. I'd probably loose if i didn't make those charges. So, sticking closer to boss turn one could have been a more reliable solution. Also, i didn't really need to charge all those basilisks so early. I didn't expect them to be SO resilient after 7-th. But they dodn't kill all that much on their own. Scions, on the other hand are the first priority. They're like 10 times killier than a basilisk point-for-point. And go down 10 times faster.

His overwatch sounds absurdly good! Basilisk should be getting just under 1 kill a turn on overwatch vs boyz according to the math. I want this guy's dice!
