Just read about the battle for Baal. Does anyone know details about it beyond the core rulebook? At first I figured it was a bit silly that the boys in blue would show up to the rescue, but honestly I'd forgotten about Tigirius. He's probably the single best counter to the Tyranids in the Imperium so I guess it makes sense his chapter would show up like that. Is there any mention of him "tapping into" the hive mind and foretelling the fall off Baal? Is he mentioned in dark Imperium? I havn't read it yet.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

As far as I know the rule book is the only source for this battle as of this moment.

Anyway the arrival of the Indomitus Crusade the least interesting part. Not like they had to much to fight after Ka'Bandha soloed a few millions tyranids because he was bored. Now that's a story I would like to hear!

The novel, Devastation of Baal, is supposed to release in November I think. Seems like a pretty weak resolution to both the Shield of Baal campaign and the concept of the Dark Imperium though if you ask me.

I read the passage as the Indomitus Crusade arriving [i]after[i/] the Cryptoid tendril of Leviathan was defeated.

The passage does a poor job of it, but it oooks like there is some passage of time between the Shield of Baal invasion and the Baal invasion itself. The Blood Angels have time to reinforce properly at least.

The Tyranids stomp their way through the system and although the Chapter Fortress stubbornly refuses to be broken, everything else is annihilated. Then the Cicatrix opens up and blocks out the sky just as the final (and unstoppable) wave of Tyranids is attacking the fortress. When the storm passes the Hive Fleet is gone, and the Indomitus fleet is there instead.

Given the timey wimey things going on, I took the whole thing to read that a lot of the Hive Fleet was swallowed by the Warp (and the Tyranids on the other planets in the Baal system were killed by Khorne Daemons as the rift swallowed the system), and then with a bit of Warpy switcheroo, the Warp spat out the Indomitus fleet where the Hive Fleet had been to ensure that the Tyranids still on Baal didn't destroy the fortress. A bit of Khornate "only we can defeat you".

Not sure what happened to the rest of the Hive Fleet. Might be dead, but actual Hive Fleets are notoriously resilient to the effects of the Warp when in great numbers (and these were in very, very great numbers), so perhaps they will simply pop out somewhere else.

Looking for the Rest of the II Legion

I don't think they mentioned Tigurius in the fluff. With the BA being saved by Kah'Banda I wouldn't be surprised if GW finds a way to bring Sanguinius back for round 3 of that 10,000 y/o bout.

It's a "Guilliman Ex Machina." It's a very common plot device.

that's cause Tigerus WASN'T THERE. The Bulk of the Ultramarines chapter was NOT in the Indomatus crusade, they where busy at home.

After his defence of Holy Terra, Robute Gulliman gathered a new armada. Along with elements of the Adeptus Custodes and Silent Sisterhood, and a vast war host of Primaris Space Marines from many newly founded chapters, the Primarch set a winding course. Strike Forces from over a dozen pre-existing chapters of Space Marines lead by the Imperial Fists joined him...

Thus well Ultramarine Primaris sucessors =no doubt made up the bulk of the Primaris Marines (much like how Ultramarines sucessors make up the bulk of Marines) of the existing chapters, the Ultramarines where NOT the most notable ones involved, that was the Imperial Fists. chances are you had the Ultramarines second company yes, but no more, meanwhile the Imperial Fists likely deployed their entire chapter

Exalted.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

The Thing is Khorne did the saving of the BA

Gulliman just rocked up right after, so the Blood Angles could get back to strength straight away

Further, Dark Imperium suggests that even 100 years on travel across the great rift is still unusual, so although a massive crusade Fleet would be brave enough to travel across the tides of Chaos, smaller fleets and individual ships probably don't.

Something, something... strange time flows due to the warp storms. Everything is messed up. Some parts of the universe time flows differently. So the BA were still battling the Tyranids and Guilliman had the time to set up the Crusade and came for the rescue. In the meantime on the moons of Baal, Khorne had a field day against the Nids and some Bloodthirster made skull towers to mock the BA.

Guilliman did not save the BA, Khorne somehow did. The entire Leviathan tendril was gone when the fleet arrived. Just the Nids left on the surface of Baal and they had problems without connection to the Hive Mind.

Oh... And they had help from the LotD to. At least an excerpt called Hour of the Damned says so.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

So something something. Daemons dont hate nids now, Guilliman.
Sounds about right for Gdub writers.

also keep in mind the crusade may have reached Baal before the rift prevent all travel.
