Decided to start my own blog for the hobby, I guess its more fun this way?!

It's fair to say I am 95% collector and 5% player, but for some very funny reason I do enjoy creating and refining armylists... I wish to improve my skills in painting and basing, and I will always create my minis that in mind. Gaming comes last, so keep this in mind while browsing. ^^

I relaunched my miniature hobby in late 2016, and I started to collect Trollbloods from Hordes (first time ever buying Privateer Press items).

Trollblood figures I own:
Spoiler:

- Warlock Gunnbjorn (unworked)
- Warbeast Bouncer (finished) - picture in OP post
- Warbeast Impaler (unworked)
- Fennblade Unit (WIP)

From Warhammer 40,000 I picked Orks, started with them June 2017.
Orks figures I own:
Spoiler:

- Kommandos
- Nobz

Im a huge fan of Blood Bowl as a game, and seeing it relaunch last year was big thing. I mainly play it in digital form nowadays, but I decided to join a local league that kicks off August 2017. I am in the process of building Goblin team with following line-up:
2x trolls
1x fanatic
1x looney
11x goblins
3x RR
= totaling 950K (leaves me cash to buy one bribe for the first game)

One secret passion of mine is Legion of Azgorh (Chaos Dwarves), and I plan to start an army with them. Got some big ideas for bases (gonna do traditional square bases w/ movement trays), the project is pretty much just on-stand-by for funding.

Here are all three finished models of trollbloods.

Warbeast Bouncer

The base for Bouncer, took some time to make.

And two grunts from Fennblade unit

Next on my table is 2x fennblade grunts, will throw pictures once its time.

Bit of a blog post about what I plan to create in the near future. (sorry for my poor handwriting)

I started to plan out a blood bowl pitch, which has been a dream of mine quite a while. To me these folded pitches just dont deliver the feel, and I always thought scenic blood bowl pitch would look cool on my shelf.

Being an evil self-centric person, I pretend I am making the stadium of Wurthûgel Wardens (my human team in BC2), and in my team blog I said the team is renting Goadmalice Park. Which is actually a stadium for ogre team in official blood bowl fluff. I figure that structures there are, would be made of stone. Still I don't limit myself too much with that, and most likely will use some wooden stuff as well.

pitch=all playing spaces
floor=pitch + extra room around it, including dugouts

Like in the image, I plan to cut the pitch in half. Total length of the pitch is 91cm and width 52,5cm + the extra space around it - to me that is too big to keep in one piece when you think about logistics. After thinking a while, I'm also wishing I can make the actual pitch elevated and have sides of it nicely decorated. Supported in the middle as well, but this would give me hollow space under 'the floor' and provide storage. Possible space for the teams! (this would mean I need at least 7cm space below)

I believe, that if I made the floor 110cm long and 65cm wide, it will be big enough for playing. I was thinking about rolling the dice, which could be a bit problematic with the floor size, so maybe one of the decor buildings would work as a dice tower? Will see. The floor material will most likely be a cork board that is supported from below with something more firm. Cork board makes brilliant material since its very light, can take paint and is easy to craft/cut.

That's all for now, still brainstorming it.

3rd guy of fennblade unit done, took a small groupshot of finished trollbloods so far!

I've also assembled all the blood bowl goblins, soon will basecoat them all.

The Orks arrived in mail, assembled one Nob and been painting it and figuring out the theme. Will share once finished.

My first Nob is almost done, minor details on the guy and then the actual base - very close to finishing it. Sadly my basing materials haven't arrived yet, so waiting for those.

Once he is done, I will proceed to concentrate on that blood bowl team so it will be finished for the upcoming league!

Ilgoth, all your minis look great! Love the troll blood colour scheme but the bases are amazing too, nice work. Look forward to seeing more especially those grots.

Thanks for the nice comment! Painting the goblins will be bit of a challenge, not used to such a small models!

I decided to work four goblins at the same time to be more time efficient.

I will use light grey basecoat, so the end result is as a bright as possible. The skins are done, though one guy's nose went brilliantly bad (first image, 2nd from right). Most likely I will now proceed to paint the underlying clothing/leather, which will be dark blue.

(sorry for bad images, seems my phone's camera is really bottlenecking with things this small)

I worked on DYI lightbox for me to take decent photos no matter the time or weather of the day.

I only need to invest in a proper light or two and ensure they come with daylight bulps.

Will soon share WIP gobbos. They are advancing nicely.

Blood Bowl gobbos are going along nicely, taking my time with them and really trying my best here.

Most of the work been on the armor parts, still some spots to do. Should I try Yriel Yellow as an edge highlight?

Once the armor's done, I will advance to trousers and details.

The pain of miniature collector.

Right now I am in a spree of designing new army projects. I get this huge itch to watch some models, then find something I really enjoy and find cool looking. Soon I am building up a standard sized armylist, so not only my future collection looks great but would be playable if I ever end up playing with it.

My current projects:
- trollbloods from Hordes
- Ork from 40K
- Goblins in Blood Bowl

Dreaming about:
- Space Wolves in 40K
- Khador in Warmachine
- Chaos Dwarves in AoS
- Kharadron Overlords in AoS

See the issue? I'm really afraid it might spin out of hand eventually, and my bank account + storage space gets obliterated. How have you resolved this 'issue'?

No. I own small armies for 6 AoS factions (4 of which can be combined to make 2 bigger armies, thank you grand alliances), 2 30k armies and miniatures from 7 different 40k ones.

Back in 4th edition I had at least 2000 points of every 40k army and large fantasy armies including vampire counts, beastmen, undead, empire and bretonnia. Also had almost all the bloodbowl teams except elves. Not one army was fully or even remotely painted, but we didn't worry as much about that as getting games done. Your not in trouble unless you cannot afford the armies.

Seems Im not alone. ^^ I seriously struggle to keep focusing on some project for a while, and not to jump in between. After all I want to paint all of them, cant keep buying and expanding the waiting list on my painting table too fast. On the other hand, there are so many cool models...

I figured that I always paint one unit from some army, once done I grab something from different army. This way I get to paint different stuff in steady intervals, keeps things fresh and interesting.

Oh and I bought first unit of Kharadron Overlords.. ^^ Will play friendly match of blood bowl today, my goblins go against Chaos Dwarves. Tough match-up...

Automatically Appended Next Post:
First tabletop blood bowl match has been played, went against Chaos Dwarves with my gobbos! Lost the game 0-1.

Chaos Dwarves line-up:
Spoiler:

4x hobgoblins
9x blockers
4x RRs

Goblins line-up:
Spoiler:

15x goblins
1x troll
4x RRs

and 1x bribe

He won the toss, and started in offense. Have to say that compared to the coaches I've met here, he wasn't too skillful and his offensive was too broad and spread out. I managed to isolate his blockers here and there, and gave him obvious route to go for which I then effectively crushed from three sides. He soon ended up in a situation, where ball carrier would have to dodge twice + two GFIs for TD. He failed, and I managed to scoop-up the ball, and took the game to his end. It was looking very promising, but sadly I made one screening error which gave him a window to blitz my carrier. Soon half ended, pretty much nothing happening.

Surprisingly I had the numbers for my half (11vs10), and it was promising but with a special play card that gave -1 to pick-ups, catches and passes until the end of the drive, my ball handling wasn't there. After slipped hand-off, I never got the ball back and to my sadness - one Hobgoblin managed to take the ball and run for it. I tied him up with two goblins, and even threw one goblin at him - but hobgoblin was determined to take the ball and with lucky AG rolls, he made the game 1-0. I tried to one-turn with team-mate throwing, but the initial hand-off the soon-flying goblin failed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------

My initial experience with goblins was great, and I dare to say I managed players well. Sadly my line-up is below mediocre, with special weapons I would have been able to win it. Maybe even with just one more troll, and it would have tipped the game for me. Tackle made my day harder, but I can live with teams such as (chaos) dwarves. Fun game, and throwing a gobbo at ballcarrier was the highlight.

Whelp! Two first goblins finished, gave them all I got. Kept to my original plan of two-colored trousers, white armor markings and also added some paint chippings here and there. Feel free to comment.

Extra pictures for the sake of it, shows you better how it looks on table:

So just another 14 of these and 2 trolls to go.

Really struggling to find time for painting this week, working 1200-2100 shift breaks the day so badly. From all the household stuff, I barely have time during the mornings and at late night I'm either too tired or still got something else to work out.

Been a while since I last posted. My new job at the hospital, and studies got in the way of the hobby... but back flashier than ever?

Back in the late summer I purchased Zombicide: Black Plague, not only to play it as it comes but also to use the miniatures for our Pathfinder group. Got one of the extra packs, and received this guy.

I just love the model, and I think the colors I went with are pretty cool. Sadly I think my skills at taking miniature shots is just... dont know. The shots look good on my phone screen, but watching them on PC they are just bit ugly. Maybe picture is bit too big, and all color edges and brush strokes go crazy. Any good tips are welcome.

Got some more heros ready, but will share them soon with bunch of zombies.

Been so lazy with my postings but today I finally decided it would be enough, and set up myself for some photoshooting!

These Zombicide heroes were actually finished before the one I posted last time, so here is a group shot.

I am very happy with this level of detail, figures are small and are stored in boardgame box so didnt really feel like doing loads of layers with all colors. Tried to have some eye candy in all of them (guy with his purple cape, or the smith with his cloth). Most of them were fun to paint, but I did start to get tired as I painted them all at the same time. Facial details are bad, but honestly some of the casts had facial depth missing (like the woman with her crossbow). I think I could improve it with one more layer (skin color 75% - yellow 25% mix).

Heroes need their enemies! Here is the biggest zombie, the Abomination.

I tried to focus on this one, since he is the eye catcher. This is the fellow heroes are afraid of, and players keep looking at it to remind where this big guy is about. Ripped clothing is very simple and short on layers, but the skin has total of 6 layers. Proud of the skin, really like the contrast I was able to create here.

Some minions for the abomination;

and some close-ups on runners and fatties;

The zombies in my opinion dont need too much work, especially with their feet. Due to the game, you usually have them in groups, sometimes in hordes, running about and you dont really see too much of the figure. Thus no point in making too detailed bases, they are just unicolor with gray random tiling and wash on top (finalised with painted rim). I did not add blood, reason 1 being I dont own proper paints for it and reason 2 - I despise overly done blood effects. ^^

For general purpose of the hobby, I paint these zombies in groups of ~10 to mainly learn faster work and have a change from nitty-bitty painting of some bigger models. They also provide good platform to try some new effects, or ways of painting. Real nice change, still got about 60 of them waiting for paint.

And that is it for Zombicide! Zombies were painted during January, alongside the ogre hero. Other heroes were finished back in December.

When I started the thread I posted bunch of trolls from Privateer Press. That unit is advancing slowly, but half of them now done!

That is all for my January 2018 painting, but I have also been purchasing Space Wolves so finally back to my childhood game - Warhammer 40,000. Now I do love the models of Space Wolves, and I gave lot of thought about them. I decided to do some kitbashing, but I find it important to keep the same vibe with the models. They are still the coolest, and the finest chapter. NO amount of social pressure will change my opinion.

So what I have bought so far:
2x Skyhammer Wolves Pack
Space Wolves Battalion (old starter set?)

and I believe with those, I can make 3x Drop Pods, one scout squad and 30 Bloodclaws/Grey Hunters/Wolf Guards. Very nice start for the collection, all in total costing me 145 euros (one bought as 2nd hand, everything in sprues). Might make two drop pods for playing use, but one of them most likely will face the destination of becoming terrain.

I have started modelling the wolves, and here are the first three grunts for Grey Hunter squad.

Arms, weapons, shoulder pads and heads are basic SW pieces. The torso and legs (resin) is from Puppetswar, dont recall the range but at the end of the say they are Space Vikings. For absolute love and my obsession with them, all received a cape (resin) - bought from Bits of War. All of the resin bits were in good quality, some of those capes did have some casting errors in the depths but nothing that would ruin the look.

I love the results so far, and cant wait to make the bases and get into painting. I do my best to achieve WYSIWYG, but with troops and chainswords this might vary (depending which list I use, thought it would be best to model with chainswords and say "in this list they dont have them" than other way around). This SW force will be one of my main longterm collections, will be giving them lot of my attention.

I've been wondering how to paint these guys, I will go for iconic Space Wolves main color on armor but I might aim for a bit saturated look and not so candy-like. Recently stumbled upon the work of Matt DiPiedro, ex studio painter of Privateer Press. He paints the miniatures in black-white first, to find the correct values and then glazes the colors on top. I kind of wanna give that a go, and once I have put the colors in, I try to figure out if I continue from there with layers and what not.

First squad of Space Wolves Grey Hunters complete. Really enjoy the result of the kitbash. Painting them took a while, seems everytime with new painting scheme I am extremely slow. Also didnt paint much during March. Tried to make rubbled ruins that are getting overgrown with some Autumn colours. One of many squads. These guys will most likely remain as only WH40K collection on my shelf.

I am happy with them. They look good in my eyes. I guess I could tried achieving bit more contrast here and there, but the end result isn't bad. Glad to get something finished!

Below single-guy shots. Fourth guy is with a flamer.

Thanks Emberlordoffire8

I originally wanted to go bit more grim with their look, but this is what I ended with, and quite like it too. Natural result for a process I enjoyed.

And now he is finished! Brother was happy with the paintjob, not my best work but I think it will do. Somewhat annoying figure to paint, lot of spots that are hard to reach but still somewhat visible to the eye.

Next thing I tackle will be 2nd Grey Hunter squad for Space Wolves!

The status of the group. Just made the bases, laying out the basic shapes and placing down the concrete rubble. Gonna try some fancy poses, lot of them have movement in their legs.

Been working on the group, and I believe I am on schedule! No work this weekend, so most likely will swing the brush loads! Now bases and miniatures have been pre-shaded with Zenithal highlighting.

Small breakdown on how I make the bases.

Before painting.

1. Create basic shapes using cork sheet
2. You know that plaster you would use to fill holes in concrete wall? That's the light grey stuff I use. I blob it on top of cork pieces. When I use it to bring up the final shape of the land, I also add and put down couple pieces from GaleNine product (concrete rubble). NOTE: no clue needed. As plaster dries, it hardens and these pieces are stuck forever.
3. By using two Citadel Texture paints called "Stirland Mud" and "Astrogranite Debris", we bring in more variety to the textures. You could easily create same result with fine sand mixed in with PVA clue, but I find these two paints convenient.
