The Mortis Dreadnought costs nothing for a fantastic gun platform.

Leviathan Dreadnought is super popular for good reason in 7th, he will more than remain so in 8th imho, he's pretty much largely the same

Venerable Chaplain Dreadnought is a character, has tons of wounds and toughness, an invulnerable save AND a FNP' he also costs not to much and is a HQ choice, imho he's one of the biggest winners both as a gunline counter-attacker and a guy leading the charge.

Lufgt Huron makes Marneus Calgar look like a joke in a fight and is just as good a warlord (though slightly different focus wise) and is cheaper... the guys amazing.

Tyberos will kill practically anything he touches, if he's got a bodyguard then then you may as well put your opponents models in a literal blender.

Armennus valthex is a great gunline buffer

Moloc remains a murderous beast

Magister Sevrin Loth is a fantastic anti-psyker psyker

Anton Narvaez is a surprisingly good for his cost guy, his gun is baller and the actinic Halo got a MASSIVE side buff because of the command points reroll, plus he's pretty cheap

Lias has the speed of an eldar and shoots like a tank, he's also a great buff guy even if he is a bit of a gimmick in some ways.

Mordaci Blaylock went from most mediocre to one of the best for his cost Badab era characters, being just a fantastic all rounder.

Bray'Arth Ashmantle is probably harder to kill than a land raider in practical terms and can't really be tarpitted by something without a storm shield... you have to run (though he costs a bajillion points)

Harath Shen is so much better than a normal salamanders apothecary for so little points he's great.

Ahazra Redth is as surviveable as a terminator librarian with a price tag between that and a normal librarian for the loss of teleportation, solid choice imho.

High Chaplain Thulsa Kane is a crazy good buff character for CC and a great duelist if a tad costly.

Vaylund Cal is a montser, have him work with a razorback gunline or advancing with dreadnoughts, either way he'll kick ass hard, is tough to kill and has the buffs of a techmarine AND chapter master, crazy good character and gives those poor iron hands players an actual unique option.

I haven't checked out the super heavies enough to make a judgement call yet, but in general the dreads and Badab characters almost all range from good to great, pretty sure the only one i'd call bad is malakin Phoros because his abilities and wargear basically work counteractively

I was about to buy my first 40k army (Dark Angels). However after reading "Bray'Arth Ashmantle" I am starting think Salamanders might be my true calling haha

The Tarantula Sentry guns seems very cheap for the points?

The other thing that caught my eye was the Storm Eagle and the Fire Raptor gunship.....now I have no idea if they are good value for the points or not but they look cool!

I won't argue for a second against Bray'Arth, he's sort of ridiculous though, like he's literally a dreadnought with the cost (probably worth it too) of a land raider

Yes to tarantula's, they're limited by rules but are so cheap it's worth it, i can see people taking 3 units + an inquisitor for a command point at less than 100 points and still having useful stuff

Would it be worth running Bray'Arth and Venerable Chaplain in the same list?

I'm not sure when i'd take Bray'Arth honestly, he's VERY hard to kill, can' be tarpitted and will kill everything short of knights fairly easily but he costs a monstrous amount.

The Venerable Chaplain kind of does a similar role a little so i probably wouldn't take them together, i might even purposefully not take any other HQ's since if you have others Bray'Arth can't be the warlord just to dare most opponents to try killing him.

IMHO put him in a stormraven with a unit of VV/sternguard etc with apothecary and ancient and just rush all that into wherever will be a big problem for an opponent, it's expensive but you're practically guarunteed to ruin your opponents plans in that area of the board
