I wouldn't know at this point, I'm trying to "play it painted" this edition and paint things before they hit the table. So yeah:

1. It's too soon to tell, given how codices are going to start rolling out.

2. No, no powergaming! Bad! *smacks with newspaper* Bad! No powergaming!

3. RULE OF COOL IS KING. No seriously, regardless of how unlikely, everything can hit+wound anything this edition.

4. I am not kidding about the Rule of Cool. There's no point trying to get a netlist/winning combo this early in. Also you may become TFG if you want top-tier armies this soon into 8th. I don't know if this is your intention, but whenever I see someone ask for top-tier armies, I assume they want to use said top-tier armies. Seriously though, rule of cool this edition. Powerfists man, powerfists.

Well horde armies seem to be very powerful, and I had little hope for my cron's initially but we seem to be very capable of holding our own against them. But yea too early to tell overall where everything sits.

Yeah, if hordes become more prominent, we should see a rise in weapons like flamers and similar which do D6/2D6 worth of damage.

Necrons are pretty savage. I recommend making their Rez protocols actively unpleasant plus taking vehicles with quantum shielding and then watching your opponent cry.

Yes there is. The point is winning, because winning is fun.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

I assume you play the AWP (Or Elephant Killer) in Counter Strike, no?

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Nope, the objective is to win, the point is to have fun. You kinda do have a responsibility to make sure your opponent has fun as well, cuz if you want to win 100% of the time, there's solitaire.I want to win as much as the next bloke, but kicking my opponent's teeth in leaves a bad taste in my mouth as well.

As for Galas, AWP spam is how I knew it was school hoidays back when I used to play. Used to Nova rush them with hilarious results.

Yeah I can't enjoy a game if my opponent isn't having fun. And it really isn't fun getting obliterated off the table. It's way more fun bringing a list you've built for fluff/fun, than to destroy and win. Even though Typhus is better than the Lord of Contagion in every way, and is cheaper, I still roll with the Lord of Contagion, because I have fluff behind mine and enjoy fielding him more than just taking the "better" option.
As said before, it's too early to tell what's powerful for the most part, so I'd say get what you think looks coolest/can get behind and enjoy playing the most. At the end of the day, If the rules look fun and the figures look cool, you'll have fun

Eldar are solidly bottom-tier without SfD or Forgeworld (or both), so if you're not an expert I'd leave them well alone. SM have always been and will allways be at worst middle-tier. Last edition they were pretty powerful, and I can't see GW screwing their super-duper-ultra-perfect-bestest-ever-mattard-Ultramarines now that Daddy-Blue Bighands has arrived.

I might be wrong, but it seems to me that CSM aren't the best bang for the buck right now

I don't know about that. I've used four different Eldar (not Ynnari) lists in the seven games of 8th Edition (each against a different player) that I've played so far, I haven't lost yet, and I only used FW models in my most recent game (a Hornet squadron). Admittedly, the plural of anecdote is not evidence, and I could just be playing against people who suck.

Eh, I'm hoping they're just un-obviously good/average. It does say something that they're not an outright auto-lose, so that's something.

Not really - playing is fun. Winning is just one potential outcome.

8th edition looks to have balanced all FACTIONS, with each one being able to easily counter another. When it comes to TAC lists then it's much too early to tell.

I don't think we can put together a tier list based on personal experience, the bias is just too strong. We should be getting the results in from the first GTs over the next few weeks Those should give us a better idea of the meta, but it may take months before we know which armies are a little more equal in this edition.

Constantly being negative doesn't make you seem erudite, it just makes you look like a curmudgeon.

I'm going to go with 230 razorwing flocks as top tier. Their wings shall blot out the sun!

So far ig is №1. But that's mostly due to a couple broken units - scion comsquads and arguably conscripts+comissars. Also, basilisk spam is great cause they're tough, fast, shooty, don't require los and are really cheap for the points.

Most others also have strong builds. Sm have razor spam and devastator spam, orks have gotten a huge boost for horde-style play, tyranids are lightning fast.

So checked out the boise GT on best coast pairings, and there are a lot of gimmick lists in the top 3 places, with two rounds to go it looks like a two flyer wing BA lists might take top spot. I might see about a subscription to see if boise is an isolated incident or if this is the new normal.

Any details on how the acolytes played?

Based on the first weekend's tournament results (and therefore definitely subject to change), the top five armies seem to be:

- Imperium (Adepta Ministorum/Sororitas, Militarum Tempestus, Grey Knights)
- Chaos (Questor Traitoris, Daemons)
- Drukhari/Dark Eldar
- Tau
- Tyranids

Bear in mind, however, that the sample size is very small still (a few armies have zero results yet) and likely doesn't fully consider forge world units for Xenos and non-astartes Imperials since those books came out too recently for anyone to play models that they didn't already have ready.
