Ok so i know that it will never be perfectly balanced and that starter sets(and every codex release after that) will always favour the imperium but this time its just stupid. I just played a game against my son and he wiped me off the table my death guard didnt stand a chance. Mow that does not sound to bad until i explain that my son is 7 and has never played the game before. Yes he rolled well and i had bad luck with the dice but it was never even close

Extrange. In all of my games with the starter, the game goes like:

1st Turn- Primaris Marine shoot the crap out of Death Guard
2-3rd Turn: Lord of Contagion reachs meele. Primaris Marines just evaporate from the table.

Is much better that the Dark Vengeance one where the poor Hellbrute never did anything, he just died to the plasma spam of the Dark Angels.

My lord never made it due to bad charge rolls. I needed a 3 to reach combat and rolled a 2. He died in a storm of plasma

My games go exactly like yours Galas. Pox Walkers get evaporated, Plague Marines take a couple of deaths, then the Lord deep strikes and demolishes the Primaris. I tend to keep my drone on the flank I bring in the Lord, so it can act as a bodyguard for him until he charges. The Plague Marine with the plasma gun tends to do some work as well. Overall though, the drone taking hits + Lord demolishing = a Death Guard victory every game

Maybe it's not the balance, but the dice....

Other than the 9" teleport charge, how does the Lord possibly catch anything in melee?

Thats how you make it get addicted to this.

I did in the past with my younger niece with the Battle for Skull Pass of 7th fantasy. Playing 3 games he win 2, one with the goblins and other with the dwarfes

I told my son about my lord being able to teleport in behind him and he says not if all my men are in the way. So he deployed in 1 corner with his troops in the front and his characters behind them overlapping the auras overcharged long range plasma shots that can reroll to hit rolls and wound rolls is sick. Add in the banner guy letting them fire again even if they die and it is a very scary set up.

I can't believe you're butthurt over your son winning the game.

Let the kid have something man.

Also, other people have just plain evaporated the spessmarnies with their plegmarnies, so...

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

except thats not the case, your son beats you and it's all the "imbalance in the starter set".

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Yeah, you basically stomped off to rant about your friends about how OMG LIFE'S NOT FAIR! and your child beat you in a board game.

'Straya... Mate.

When you lose to a 7 year old, it's wise to not come and admit it and then try to blame the armies

A really important thing too.

The starter kit, like all starter kits, is slanted in the Space Marines favor.

This one is a deal closer than some, though, and the boys in putrid green can still pull out wins.

If he was smart enough to castle to deny you your teleport charge behind him, and you lost, you should be proud, and then try the game again with some LOS blocking terrain, or offer to trade sides for the next game.

This reads like 4chan copypasta. I haven't enjoyed a Dakka thread like this in a good while. Thanks bro.

Most dads I know would be ecstatic if their children got into 40k with them. Even more so if their kids then used some great tactics to beat dad in a game. Let him enjoy his victory, and propose another game. You're lucky to have a son that likes to play games with you.

My kids are into 40k as well and really enjoying 8th edition. I'm proud as can be of them when they win.

I have at no point said im not proud and happy that he is playing i am very happy. I was just pointing out how badly balanced this set is if a 7 year old that has never played before can beat an adult that has been playing for 30+ years.

TO BE CLEAR I AM VERY PROUD OF MY SON

Maybe he's a genius.

Given the situation and the admittance of bad rolls, this anecdote is not strong enough evidence that the box game is imbalanced, especially given the counter-anecdotes of a reversal of roles.
