So I am a bit confused.

The EZ build Plague Marines are coming out after the new SM unit. No surprise that SM are already getting another new unit type, or they are coming out first. What I am confused about is the Plague Marines. Since the DG new weapon "Plague Launcher" is in the index, and was not in the DI box....they decided to put it on a snap fit model...in a box of 3 models.

So if I want to get that new weapon on 4 units of PM's my option now is to buy 4 boxes of 3 mono-pose marines. It seems like the Havoc model issue.

Really? Thats kind of odd.

I think the models from the current release; Dark Imperium and the new snap-fit sets, were originally suppose to be one set (it would have given you 10 plague marines with one with the Plague Launcher) but maybe the calculated price point would have been too high, so they decided to split up some of the models.

It's certainly odd that they decided to release more snap-fit models rather than full kits, since the Intercessors and Hellblasters are basically screaming for a combined kit.

Cheap snap-fits are perfect for beginners to come in and pick up a box with whatever shrapnel you happen to have in your wallet. The choice to release these boxes is anything but odd, rather it's a really smart sales pitch, and one that people have been asking for for years.

I'm pumped about the new cheap box set. My friend has been wanting to play Warhammer but is turned off by the price tag and modeling aspect. Now its a cheap way to get in with good looking models and I wont have to spend hours putting together his crap for him. Death Guard is even better cause I can wash paint most of the army with some splashes of metallic paints.

The strat to get more people to buy is not odd. The snap fit models are not an odd choice either.

I am more talking about a 3 (why not a 5) man PM box, with the new DG weapon being part of it. That IS odd to me.

It's so that it can either be a beginner box of 3 dudes or an addition to the collection from the DI box set. If you get this 3-man box, you'll have 2 five man units of Plague Marines, each with a special weapon and a sergeant with a powerfist, if you're adding it to the DI set. It's a good way of bringing new players in, adding a bit extra to the current collection and finally showing us what the Blight Launcher looks like. Our proper multi-part kits will be coming later

I can honestly say, I dun like the Snap fit box.

Not only are the numbers odd - 3 models? Ew - but the composition is also equally bad if you want to add to existing units.

Powerfist and Plague Sword champion, Blight Launcher, Bolter Marine. Um....ew?

Now the Poxwalkers have potential at least.....

Yeah, now we have two powerfist and sword champions... yet I don't really see the use of that weapon combo.
Also, Multipose-models was one of the most important aspects for me to start 40K (played lotr a long time before). But I have enough plague marines and enjoy variety, it would only bug me if I started the army now, nobody likes doubles.

Yeah the armament of the snapfit DG champion is a bit odd, same weapons as the DI kit...which means he isn't as useful of a model. The blight launcher is welcome though. Honestly it's just a tad weird.

The load out of the champion is probably to do with the balance of the little set they come in. And as they're snap-fit, they're just releasing them how they are, separately, from the balanced box set

1 plague launcher per 3 models is actually way better than anything we could have hoped for. 1 in a box of 5 would have been the most optimistic reasonable expectation, possibly even 1 in a box of 10. So this is a good thing, especially if you have older Plague Marine units to gear up.

At least if you add the 3-man Snap-fit box to the Dark Imperium Plague Marines and convert one of the Champions to just be a normal Plague Marine, you'll have a valid 10-man squad.

If its only three that's pretty bad you'll spend more than you should making legal units, just when I was giving them credit too.

Except for the fact that one of these 3 is another Powerfist toting Plague Champion. Since you can't field 2 of those in a 10 man squad you're really ending up with 9...plus a random Powerfist Champion.

Except for the fact that if you add these to the 7 that come in the DI box, you now have 2 legal units of 5. Or if you just want the blight launcher you can swap it out on a larger unit. Options my friend.

my suggestion here is to learn to recast. One of the first things I did with 40k was realize they rarely include enough bits in the box. All you need is a bed of legos and some putty that will not stick to green stuff and/or jb waterweld. make a press of the gun and hands if applicable and then remake it to your heart's content. now do not try to sell them because that would be illegal for sure. reproducing is also illegal but if it is going on your model and being painted... well that is your decision to make. Also note if you modify 15% or more difference then suddenly you are going from illegal to legal (at least in the US last I checked, check your country's laws if outside US). so if you say did a few bits of sand and changed it enough it is suddenly your version of that gun.

personally I have used recasts occatioonally to reproduce broken pieces and/or to equip a squad with weapons that were not prevelant or seemingly absent from a box (see assault cannons on razerbacks)

We finally know what a blight launcher looks like, and I should have guessed... a grenade launcher with skullz.

I think they should be easy to convert up from IG launchers and some skully boney bitz.

Then wait a month for the full 10 man Death Guard plague marine box.

You can never beat your first time. The second generation is shinier, stronger, faster and superior in every regard save one, and it's an unfair criticism to level, but it simply can't be as original. - Andy Chambers, on the evolution of Games Workshop games

Pretty much guessed it would look like the Destroyer Rad-missile launcher the moment they announced it.
