I recently looked over the current data scrolls for Skaven and they look decent enough. I'm curious though since they don't have any new info out, how are they holding up currently? Skaven were the one army I always wanted to play in Fantasy Battles for many many years, but just never got around to doing it since so many people in the areas I lived played them. Are they an ok investment in AoS, or are they on the "wait and see" to see if any new battle scrolls or updates come out for them?

Skaven as a whole are fairly decent as an army. They have cheap units that can be powerful as a whole, and they have strong units that are favourites as the cheese builds for tournaments.

Fluffwise, I think the Skaven are pretty much all over the place, The Horned Rat even managed to find a seat in the Chaos Pantheon due to the absence of Slaanesh. I haven't read any of the novels but I am pretty sure there's skaven mentioned often.

Overall, I think they are a fairly safe investment for AoS. You have some cheap deals you can take advantage of if you can find people selling the skaven half of the Spire of Dawn/Island of Blood set. There's also the Clan Pestilens Start collecting box.

You should check if there is anyone playing AoS in your area, though. The game is a bit polarizing, and your area might be one of those that aren't into AoS. There's also chances that if your place used to have a lot of skaven players, there's probably still a lot of skaven players if they kept on playing into AoS.

I honestly wish that they would get some model updates to units. Everything else has been said

If you don't know anybody who is secretly Alpharius or Omegon, you probably are him.

Skaven are solid overall. Pestilens has some nice battalion options thanks to their battletome, while stormfiends are just undercosted. The skryrefyre list is still broken as hell.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Didn't Hastings imply we might see a Skaven release this year?

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Yes, and it would make sense given their fluff prominence. There is also a small piece of art in the pestilens battletome that depicts plague monks armed with a new melee weapon.
