I did not know that about Michael J Fox. I'm nodding my head in approval.

Is there any famous Hollywood actor that isn't Canadian?

Due South was great a long long time ago. An ex offered me the dvd collection after she learned I had loved that show as a kid, but man did that not age well at all.

As an aside, Letterkenny is the newest piece of tv gold Canada dug up.

And feth Canada. 150 years of imperialist repression, genocide and exploitation isn't anything to celebrate, contrary to what the CBC wants you to believe.

That'd be the day, considering we were there before them.

Canada wasn't a nation 150 years ago, in any other way than on paper and in it's international relations. Canadian identity emerged after 1982, and, necessarily, it revolves around the ignorance of the 130 so years of history that preceded. Or acting as if you could both celebrate an institution built on repression and exploitation, and acknowledge it's crimes.

Be careful when you clutch those pearls so hard, you might cause a blood clot or something.

This is the result of willful tailoring of history to fit the outrage industries narrative. (sorry Ze'-story, I dont want to be charged for a hate crime).

You are correct though, native people were on the land murdering and genocide-ing each other just fine before the Europeans came along and did the same.

Happy Canada day everyone, Im off to find some more moose's now that my igloo is done.

Considering Canada has become literally Orwell's vision of 1984, I would think celebrating it to be a little bit in bad taste.

yay, something totally meaningless that can't be enforced in any practical way. Very 1984 (I suggest you go and read the book again, if you have done in the first place). Anyway, enough troll feeding. Happy leaf and Moose day everybody.

I saw that. If you think thats 1984 I have several hundred thousand ghosts from the gulag who would like to have a word with you about what a real communist dictatorship looks like.

you're just jealous of their strategic dominance of the maple syrup market.

Again to the took wearers, happy post Moose Day Yall!

Building a blood in water scent

Happy 150 Canada, Happy 30,000+ to the hundreds of Nations that were here before Canada. My house is located on the traditional Lekwungen and Songhees land, who are part of the Coast Salish Nations. The Coast Salish Nations encompass the area around the Georgia and Juan de Fuca Straits, and Puget Sound.

While we celebrate 150 years of being the best nation in the world to be a settler in, it is important to remember the fact that this nation was built on the systemic oppression of the First Nations that were here before the settlers. If I had been born to a Songhees family, there is a very good chance one or more of my parents had been apprehended and placed in one of Canada's infamous "residential schools".

Happy 150, Canada! Forwards, together, to a brighter future!

We were once so close to heaven, St. Peter came out and gave us medals; declaring us "The nicest of the damned".

Meh, go to Antarctica if you want to find a scrap of land on this world someone hasn't been killed on to take it away from them.

And if you think Native Americans didn't do the exact same thing to each other, you're hopelessly naive.

Will nobody think of the penguins, and their rich cultural traditions?

And if you think Native Americans didn't do the exact same thing to each other, you're hopelessly naive.

That's as if Russia subjugated the whole of Europe and tried to eradicate their culture for 100 years and then some guy said "if you think Europeans didn't do the exact same thing to each other, blah blah"

The fact that the varied First Nations competed and warred among themselves pre-European contact is not the point.

No, the point is that people can be proud to be part of a nation even if it has dark events in its history. And no nation does not have dark events in its history. Further, those dark events don't negate the good things about a nation either, and Canada has a lot of good things.
