Hi Everyone,

First off I am new to the forum and I thought I would contribute to the community by sharing a conversation I had with a FW rep not to long ago regarding whether or not we will ever see the FW custodes models make it into the 40k universe. Here is a part of the conversation I had with them!

Whilst it would be great to see more of the forge world Custodes units bridge the gap to 40k, the design team may decide to keep the Heresy universes and brand separate from each other. This also include the Legion specific units found solely in the Horus Heresy rule books, These also do not have 40k data sheets.

If we are to get Custodes Data sheets, they will likely be seen in a future Imperial armour campaign book so please keep an eye on the community forum and face book posts for all the latest updates.

So with that said I thought I would see if anyone has created some experimental rules for these models that would allow me to bring my models into 8th edition 40k and tie me over until a new Imperial Armor was released. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a thread in the 40k Experimental Proposed Rules section... so I thought i would create one! And post some experimental set of rules for each of the models that FW produces in the hopes of tying us all over

Armed with the Horus Heresy Book VII Inferno, Imperial Armor Index: Forces of the Adeptus Astrates and Imperium Index 2. I have reviewed and have tried to put together a balanced set of rules for each of the FW 30k Custodes Models. I have not play tested these rules yet, and I am definitely looking for any feedback I can get on them. I will be posting each Model's rules individually, as my days can get pretty busy.

So lets dive in!

Dreadnought Praesidum Shield: This shield generates a powerful energy field which reinforces and amplifies the Contemptor’s Atomantic Shielding.
Any enemy models wishing to assault or engage the Relic Galatus Contemptor resolve their attacks with a -1 modifier to HIT. NOTE: If the Galatus Contemptor is reduced to 1-2 W’s this modifier is lost, as the force field generated by this shield has gotten substantially weaker.

This shield also confers a 3+ invulnerable save to the Relic Galatus Contemptor Dreadnought. However, as the Galatus Contemptor Dreadnought takes Damage, this energy field strength is gradually reduced. Use the Following Damage table to determine the appropriate strength of the Invulnerable save.

Damage

7-12+: Sv 3++
3-6: Sv 4++
1-2: Sv 5++ (-1 to HIT modifier is also lost)

[b]Special Rules:

Relic of Ancient Glory: Roll a D6 each time this model loses a wound on the roll of a 6 that damaged is ignored and the wound is not lost.
Explodes: If this model is reduced to 0 wounds, roll a D6 before removing it from the battlefield; on a 6 it explodes and each unit within 6in suffers D3 mortal wounds.

I am mildly amused by the similarities between your conversion and mine.

Broadly we're thinking along the same lines, but it seems to me like you've made them too weak and tremendously overpriced on PL (maximum upgrades your Achillius should be 12PL, minimum upgrades you're literally doubling the price if you use it with PL instead of points). These are the 300pt/15PL super-Dreadnaughts, they should be super-Dreadnaughts.

PL costs and statlines are pretty similar, but I think you've been too cautious with the weapon stats, and if any Dreadnaught in the 41st Milennium deserves a 2+ save it's these ones (especially given that the Relic Contemptor does). And taking the Las-Pulsar (d3 twin-linked lascannon shots) and translating it as a single lascannon just seems silly to me.

I freely admit that I was too gung-ho with the special rules in my implementation ("Heliothermic Detonation" ought to just be two damage on the storm bolters) and I really haven't done the math on my Preternatural Skill rule, but here's a link to the ones I'd written:
