So, since we didn't get FW rules for the Sonic Dreadnought. I've been think about house ruling in a Helbrute with a Blastmaster. Now that we have points costs for models without any weapons included. It seems like it would be pretty straight forward to do, along with Sonic Terminators, as well as Havoc and a Sonic Predator. Which I haven't played outside of Apocalypse sine the switch to the forth. It doesn't seem to unbalanced too me; since I wouldn't be making up new rules or point costs. Especially since sonic weapons aren't what they once were; compare for instance combo-bolters now to sonic blasters. I'd still take the Doom Siren on my Sonic Dreadnought since its always had despite it being mostly as waste of points now.

Sound fair?

I like what you've written here.

I use my Sonic Dread as a Helbrute with a Helbrute Plasma Cannon, since the stats are almost identical to a Blastmaster shooting as single frequency.

I'd like to add two things to your list: Warp Amps and Dirge Casters. Both upgrades added a little sonic touch to the EC vehicles in past editions, but are missing for the time being. I can imagine the insanity of the fabled 3.5 codex version of the Warp Amp in 8th ed!

The old Warp Amps would indeed be awesome in the 8th ed. A -1 LD penalty to units with 12", -2 LD within 6" -3 LD penalty to units in base contact, OP in the game today. Since even Zarakynel is only -2 LD within 6". I'd think a modern warp amp would at best be -1 LD to units within 1". Even the more recent FW version where you gain 2X shots with sonic weapons if you don't move would be pretty OP. Imagine 10 Noise Marines getting 60 bolter shots a turn. Or a 5 man unit camping with a Blastmaster getting two shots.

So something like this:

Chaos Lord: [Power Sword/Sonic Blaster] = 82 pts
Chaos Lord: [Power Sword/Sonic Blaster/Doom Siren] = 104 pts
Chaos Lord: [2X Lightning Claws/Doom Siren] = 109 pts

Sonic Terminators: [5X Sonic Blasters/Power Swords] = 195 pts
Sonic Terminators: [1X Blastmaster, 4X Sonic Blasters/Power Swords] = 219 pts

Sonic Dreadnought: [Twin Sonic Blasters/Doom Siren/Power Scourge] = 145 pts
Sonic Dreadnought: [Blastmaster/Doom Siren/Power Scourge] = 165 pts
Sonic Dreadnought: [Twin Blastmaster/Doom Siren/Power Scourge] = 193 pts

Sonic Havocs: [5X: 2X Blastmasters/3X Bolters/Bolt Pistols/CCW] = 121 pts
Sonic Havocs: [5X: 2X Blastmasters/3X Sonic Blasters/Bolt Pistols/CCW] = 133 pts
Sonic Havocs: [5X: 4X Blastmasters/1X Sonic Blasters/Bolt Pistols/CCW] = 153 pts

Sonic Predator: [Blastmaster, 2X Twin Sonic Blasters] = 146 pts
Sonic Predator: [Twin Blastmaster, 2X Twin Sonic Blasters] = 174 pts

FAQ: Emperor's children

Add following weapons to the following lists.
Combi weapon: Sonic Blaster
Champion weapon: Doom siren
Heavy weapon: Blastmaster, Sonic Blaster

That is basically how Blood angels get access to heavy flamers, inferno pistols and hand flamers, they have a note on there page that adds them to there weapon list.

Wow! Faith rewarded...

Sonic Dreadnoughts return via Forge World FAQ with Twin Blastmasters and a Doom Siren.

Things shall get loud now!

Sonic Dreadnought:

So the new Sonic Dreadnought is a Hellbrute with two additional wargear options; it may take a doom siren, and it may replace its multi-melta with two Blastmasters.

Doom Siren:

Skip the Doom Siren isn't worth it's points any more, plus you have access to a heavy flamer as an upgrade to the Helbrute fist anyway.

Twin Blastmasters:

Taking two Blastmasters cost only 6 points more that a Twin Lascannon, for 2D3 S8/AP-2/D3 shots. Its potentially much better than Twin Lascanons against armor doing 8 damage on average, but up to 18 damage in a single shooting phase. While its alt firing mode makes it effective against infantry hordes with up to 2D6 S4/AP-1/Damage 1 hits. Imagine if you happen to role crazed! A Sonic Dreadnought with just 2 Blastmasters, and a Helbrute Fist for 168 pts. All that and its still 27 pts cheaper with for its two Blastmaster shots than the IA13 version! You could then take a heavy flamer in the fist for +17 pts, or swap out the fist for a Power Scourge for 7X S8/AP-2/Damage 2 melee attacks for 173 pts. There's no reason to NOT get this dreadnought over a basic Helbrute if you play Emperor's Children.

Twin Sonic Blasters:

The FW FAQ update doesn’t have an option for a Twin Sonic Blaster which makes sense. As the alt mode of the Blastmaster is as effective if not better that the Sonic Blasters. While the Twin Blastmaster’s alt mode averages 7 shot with S4/AP-1, vs 6 shots at S4/AP-.

Also unlike the 7th ed version your don't have to stay still to get to shots from the Blastmaster making it more mobile. I'll take one or two and keep them in the backfield for fire support and to protect my camping Noise Marines for deep strikers.
