Just had a notification that photobucket are removing the ability for 3rd party hosting from most of their accounts.

Yes, you will no longer be able to store pictures on PB, then link to them from places like here - UNLESS YOU STUMP UP $39.99 PER MONTH OR $399.99 FOR THE YEAR.

My account is a free account, 2GB storage [of which I have used a whole 5.7%] and has done me well up to now. Once this goes into effect, the only account that will allow 3rd party hosting will be their "Plus 500" account which gives a total of 502GB storage at the above price. There is no option to add the hosting on to any other account level, so I will be removing my pictures and telling them to close the account

This means that any pictures I have in posts on this forum may vanish, but I refuse to give in to this sort of behaviour as it is essentially holding your pictures to ransom (Pay us, or you won't be able to share your pictures.)

"Ask ten different scientists about the environment, population control, genetics, and you'll get ten different answers, but there's one thing every scientist on the planet agrees on. Whether it happens in a hundred years or a thousand years or a million years, eventually our Sun will grow cold and go out. When that happens, it won't just take us. It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Photobucket has been in trouble for a while, and acts like this are usually indicative of an organization quickly going down the tubes, because there's no way this will pull off for them, just as such acts have typically failed other providers that attempted to charge for features after providing them free for years.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Wait photobucket still worked for 3rd party hosting? In my experience it was always exceptionally laggy and bad anyway so no loss there.

I'd move on to imgur when you can, or really if the pictures are wargaming related just toss them on Dakka.

Is this different info than the Photobucket thread on the front page of News and Rumors?

Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts.

I'm certainly not an expert on internet business models, but there appears to be a very strong pattern between rolling back free products for consumers and bankruptcy a few years later.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”
