Have you licensed gears of war for this? Cool if so, I like the model. If not, uh... Maybe at least lose the cog in the background...

Believe me or not, I didn't know the GoW logo, I don't play videogame but I like the design work done on videogames. Here we not infringe any ip, the logos are different (the day Epic, GW, sony or what else will be able to register a gear shape like ip is, fortunately, far from us), the model are inspired by GoW, but shapes and silhouette are different, weapon and general design is an original creation, and is not a copy. So no problem at all.

Wasn't suggesting the cog symbol is anyone's protected IP, just that it would make your "inspiration" a lot less obvious if you found a different symbol.

first of all thanks for the time you spent with your advice.

I google the cog simbols, and find this and variants on this one:

this is the Greater House Krieger Logo:

To me looks different and are not relatable. Tomorrow more news.

Yeah, before you start handing out free "expert" advice, perhaps assess the difference between a complex design and a simple geometric shape?

There's any number of companies that use cogs in their logos, I'm sure, and there is the added separation that video games =\= miniatures.

Frankly if I had slightly more evidence I'd wonder if that whole post wasn't a friendly warning and simple scaremongering/gak stirring.

Uh, FFG licensed Gears from MS back in 2011 to make an acclaimed board game with miniature COG soldiers. You forget about that? And yeah, there are other logos with cogs in them, but they aren't being used in promotional material for miniatures that look a lot like the characters from a game that also uses a cog logo. At any rate I just suggested ditching the cog logo would probably be a good way to tone down the "we're making unlicensed Gears miniatures" vibe.

That thing about "if I had more evidence that you're just gak stirring, I'd say you're gak stirring" seems like a fairly stupid, insulting and unnecessary thing to say, too.

Calls it as I sees it, agree or don't.

"Not" whatever is a well established trope within miniatures, this doesn't commit anything more egregious than many others, and one only has to look at CHS vs GW to see how near identical iconography can be impossible to enforce, and this is clearly nowhere near identical, even if one could argue it's heavily inspired by.

Stay calm guys, I appreciate the support of everyone (really, I live in the middle of nowhere about our hobby, so your feedback is precious for me)

From Gears of War (and not only Gow) there is a strong inspiration, but is only inspiration, the shapes are totally different: weapon, boots, armour, equipments, even the face ( gow face have a strong style) etc. etc. I bet you don't find an identical part. Anyway I well know what I said, if I (or you) want, can replicate all in all a GoW character, no one can persecute you as long you don't use the some name and some logo. Logo is the only shape you can patenting, logo and some design shape who have specific use and function ( the lawsuit Chapter house and GW explain very well the concept). Turn back to my models, even if I (and you) can copy all in all a character/model I don't see any specific and characteristic GoW part, i.e. the gow chainsaw. So, even if I appreciate your feedback I think we can close this discussion about ip (please, don't force me to put side by side some Gow image and my models)

MLaw@ yes, we are (I'm alone on the creative side, Ghamak is near to a one man show company). I had some health issue, so delay a lot the release of this models. The actual Blackrifle squad was originally sculpted in 2014. Now want release all, with a good peace, is an entire world, in our plane are 70 models. Shadow War no more, GW meantime release a game called Shadow War (probably they registered it time ago), so is better use another name, what do you think about H.I.M.(Hell Into the Myst) (is related to my background), I like the idea of "hey guys play with HIM"

Formosa@ Agree, is better a physical picture. I have the experience to said is all fine all you see in rendering is exactly what you'll find on models (I sculpting from 2006, and from 2011 are digital sculptor for company like Dust, MAntic, Infamy, Boyd'sToys (this is a great startup) and many many others). I do not want to believe me on word, as I wrote, agree with you, 3d rendering can be counterproductive, some, on rendering, can appear exaggerated. I'll show in this thread some just printed models, and maybe painted before the kickstarter.

As noted, that's probably far enough on the IP tangent - let's stick to discussing the miniatures / offerings / etc here.

Thanks all!

I really like his upper half, but his thighs are too thin. All of the junk around his shins and his big boots make the sculpt feel unbalanced. I would either add armor/exeskeleton actuators to his thighs, significantly reduce the bulk of his lower legs, or make his quads huge.

He looks cool. My only critiques is the oversized gun and Magazine. His ammo pouches are only good for carrying bubble gum or snuff based on the size of the magazine. if this is a special weapon okay but if this is the basic weapon issued and ammo pouches... someone needs to have a talk with the Quarter Master.

Sorry to hear about the health problems. Hope you're all better now. The name thing stood out to me.. I had bookmarked that scorpion to buy.. it was very cool. I'm looking forward to the releases from that range. I remember a lot of the models and they were beefy and had a cool look to them.
Are you going to Kickstarter with these or just a series of small releases?

Gallahad@ thanks for your comments. The big boots are a design choice, I guess the thighs look to you so thin for this reason, sorry you don't like. The only thing I can said is in "miniature" (I mean the physical model) It work very well (IMO), unfortunately this is something even if I want I cannot change, all the other figures in this faction have this distinctive design. But I'll take your feedback as side note.

Ernster@ thanks for you feedback. Yes, the magazine is definitely oversized, and is something I'll change on the final models with a smaller one. About the rifle, this is one of the downside when you show a rendering: the rifle is thick less than 3 mm, so lesser of a Imperial Guard laser rifle, on screen appear odd, but not on the physical model. I guess you'll agree when I'll show you some physical model.

Mlaw@ thanks very much, now I'm fine and want release this miniatures line and, if I can even the game (I learned to sculpt miniatures back in 2004 for my personal game and setting... too many time ago, something similar to an obsession now ). The scorpion and the others models are another faction, the Edelraad force (this name will said nothing, I know... the factions are four in the first year). The Krieger force is the first kickstater, only 12 models in total, no stretch goals, need to test kickstarter, production and shipping, for this reason need to be very simple. Edelraad and the others Greater Houses force will come after.

New pictures to day.

I quite like the detailing, although would love separate heads (to be able to swap on any from bits).

The only part I don't like is the scaling on the gun, that thing is massive!

The separate heads is an idea, must check the models (as I wrote was done during 2014), but I think I can do (thanks for the idea)

About the gun, is thick less than 3 mm, is about long and think a imperial guard laser rifle. I'll post first print test soon, so you can better evaluate and advise me looking at the physical model.

Yeah I think it's the general "bulk" of the weapon more than anything, but hopefully if you do decide to tweak anything that'd be a fairly easy fix. Looking forward to seeing the print

Someone has raised some proportion issue (head and rifle), so here a print test by our buddy John Boyd (the man behind Chronicles of the Wayfarer), as you can see what do not work well on screen, works well, in our opinion, on physical miniature. If you have some concerns about comment here, your feedback is really valuable to us
