Hi all, I've seen some speak of "Centurion lists" which is a type of infa structure to a list that is meant to give more balanced lists.

Does anyone know what it means, or what the restrictions are, etc

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

Not sure what a "Centurion List" is. A Centurion is the generic unit entry for HQ's that can then be upgraded to Legion Consuls, like a Legion Librarian Consul, Legion Master of Signal Consul, Legion Primus Medicae Consul, etc. etc.

A Legion Centurion can be upgraded to a Legion Delegatus Consul, who can then be the General and Warlord of your Legion by-passing the requirement for a Preator. You get a vastly inferior General in both stats, abilities, and wargear options over a Preator, and maybe save around 50 points. 50 points in a 2,500+ point game is nothing.

Would a "Centurion List" be someone who maxes out their HQ slots with Centurions? I run 2-3 HQ's every game- Preator, Master of Signal, and either a Moritat or Primus Medicae. I guess that makes it a Centurion List?

Its a 30k game with unit restrictions

Mostly about walkers and infantry. Bikes, MCs, artillery and leviathans are restricted to 0-1, tanks, fliers and flying MCs, superheavies fortifications and LoWs are a no go.

So its 30k with none of the fun stuff?

Sure, some restrictions would make the game a bit nicer, however, denying access to the HH vehicle pool is pretty harsh.

So it's 30k but only Infantry?

I mean, fun for some, but that kinda sucks.

It's quite good tbh as long as both players have a lot of units to choose from and you're into narrative games.

Much terrain nessecary to stop it being all about shooting though.

It's not any more narrative than a fully armoured spearhead.
Why do people think that infantry = narrative? Having a tank column is just as acceptable in a Legion setting.

For me it's that the horus heresy as depicted in the artwork etc depicts millions of marines fighting in massed infantry formations with titans and other war machines dotted about among them; i take centurion lists as being about a zoomed in view of a section of that huge infantry meatgrinder of a conflict where reputations were forged.

Don't get me wrong, i can't do too many of them in one stretch (i loves my MORATs and macrocarids) but theres fun to be had when done in moderation i think.

Is there a link to some "official" centurion rules?

The Centurion rules were created by the boys at Eye Of Horus Podcast.

Theyre great rules, were putting on an event using them soon in my local area.

Always find peoples reaction to the optional rules interesting, Tends to prove an interesting hobby litmus test for me.

I should probably take a look; my army is mostly infantry, as I started with a betrayal at Calth box and don't have the free funds to buy many tanks.

It's 30K without any of the choices that make 30K kewl.

I'll pass.

Or it might just be a great way to balance out some of the more easily abused options for narrative campaign weekends.

Somewhat telling it arrived after the 40k tournament scene started taking an interest.

To each their own, but theres plenty still available that makes 30k cool, Most of the coolest units are still there. Just less of the powergamer abused stuff. As i said, its a good litmus test.

I don't understand how it replicates 2nd ed games. I played hundreds of games of 2nd, and tanks were very common, although you only normally had one in a list, apart from guard. Hardly ever saw speeders though.

As long as you don't consider tanks or aircraft cool. Sucks to be the people who like tanks, I guess.

Wow, really must. Sucks if you cant play the game without your aerial pacifiers and av14 wall.

I have more AV14 than almost anyone i know, but i have zero issue leaving them at home to play some fun varied infantry games with like minded individuals.

Shows what kind of gamer you are i guess. As i said, gaming litmus test.

I don't think that is a fair comment at all. We collect what appeals to ourselves, and it is overly pious to assume that only decent gamers would maintain a range beyond their own interests to accommodate whims of an opponent, who might not even be a friend or regular partner. I'm similar to yourself in that I have a collection big enough to be able to produce a wide range of lists from, but I would never condescend someone for not being able or willing to do the same.

IOW: STOP HAVING FUN THE WRONG WAY.

I quite like the idea of fielding huge units of infantry against each other. Also, most of my army is infantry, since I can't afford squadrons of vehicles (Spartans? I've got one on my wish list, and there it's likely to stay!). These rules look interesting. I wouldn't go as far as to say they're the "right" way, though - a set of special rules for fielding armoured forces (like the old Spearhead rules) would be just as interesting. Sometimes it's fun to do something different, but don't try and convince me that way is the "right" way. There's no such thing.
