Has anyone used the Army Painter Dragon Red bottle and spray paints? Unfortunately the GW Khorne Red spray is OOP and I wanna lay down some basecoats quickly, but I've had very hit or miss experiences with Army Painter's bottle paints in the past. Their Goblin Green equivalent had the worst coverage of a paint I'd ever seen until I used their Sunburst Yellow equivalent. What's the coverage like on the Dragon Red?

I use the Dragon Red spray - it's awesomeness in a tin.

I haven't tried the bottle. I have their Pure Red bottle, and it's absolute garbage, so following on from a fairly average experience with their silver, I'm reluctant to buy other bottle colours right now.

Love their washes and sprays, though.

I have used a it of the army painter sprays and have not had any problems except with their matte varnish which was rather glossy. I did use the dragon red spray before and I believe it's closer to Mephiston then Khorne.

It is the basis of my Nid scheme and I love it.

I undercoat with brown Werewolf Fur, then follow with a dark version of the color, then light. For reds, I usually undercoat with flesh or darker red, but have also used orange and occasionally white.

I used the AP "Chaotic Red" to basecoat the pipes in this album. It worked well.

I used the various AP sprays for basecoating minis until I switched to an airbrush, so I'm using up the rattle cans for terrain since they'll hold up to the rough handling better I expect.

Generally my rule of thumb is:

Army Painter Sprays: Fantastic

Army Painter Bottle Paints: Fuggin' awful.

Just from my personal experience. Because of the thickness of the AP sprays the cans or nozzles can crud up if you're in high heat or high humidity (or worse: both!). I find I sometimes have to swap nozzles or clean them.

They're pricey at around $15 a can, but if I get 2-3-4-5 units sprayed with a can - that's hours of hand base-coating I saved, so I'll pay $3-4 an hour for saving myself that trouble.

I haven't used their sprays but do have the Pure Red and Dragon Red bottles and like them both. I wouldn't use the Pure Red for laying down a basecoat but it is good for layering highlights with. But the Dragon Red is much more opaque and should work well as a base coat.
