So, what is the community looking at as being decent for these guys when just in their standard Power Armor? My wife's got a unit of 5 of them and we are looking at how to best kit them out. I'm drawn between 5x Storm Bolters & Storm Shields, or just going 5x Plasma Pistol (really wish I could take SS & PP, but no dice there) - both load-outs of course taking free Chainswords. We'll take the other combi-weapon options out of the picture as well, as we don't have too many laying around the bitz box and like to keep it WYSIWYG where possible. Thoughts?

I'd do storm bolters and chainswords only for a small squad.
Without a CC loadout I don't think the extra pts on storm shields is worth it for a SB squad, just keep them cheap.
If you want an elite squad go combi-plas, just use the plasma pistols to make underslung combis

I wouldn't take shields on all of them, 2 are enough. Most melee attacks, basic guns (even some heavy weapons if you are in cover) and Smite don't care about a 3++.
Give them stormbolters, put them in an AC Razorback, drive them on a midfield objectiv preferably in cover and stay there. Footslogging could also work here.
If you give them pistols, I would give the leader a shield and a Frostaxe. Put them in a transport and get them in melee vs. soft targets.
Or get them some jump packs and use them to jump over bubblewraps to get to the heavy weapons. Some plasma shots and a krak grenade from the leader could really damage a tank. Followed up by a charge, they might not be destroyed but are certainly on -1 or maybe even -2 to hit and have to disengage, thus losing a turn of shooting.

I'm with Ragnar69 here.
I'd take Storm Bolters and Chainswords, maybe a Frost Sword on the leader and just put them in an Assault Cannon Razorback and drive midfield.
Five of them put out as many bolter shots as a full Grey Hunter pack and can almost match them in melee as well, while still bringing along some serious firepower from the Razorback, so it's not a bad unit at all.
I probably wouldn't bother with any Storm shields since you're only protecting one T4 wound per shield. Keep them cheap.

Storm Bolter and 2 Chainswords as Standard Loadout.
Adding 2 Kombiplasma/Melter, Stormshield, Wolfclaws, Frostaxe per 5 models depending on the rest of the list.
